We are hiring a Capitol Morning Report Writer to join our team located in Sacramento, California.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, or related field
  • Ability to write and proofread.
  • Ability to be detailed and accurate.
  • Ability to quickly digest complex information and summarize it clearly and concisely.
  • Ability to identify information that is relevant and useful to a professional audience.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and work independently.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced daily news environment.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for current or future company sponsorship.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with California state government, the Legislature, public policy or political processes
  • Experience in journalism, communications, public affairs, government, policy, research or a related field
  • Interest in government, politics, public policy and the people who shape them

Responsibilities

  • Monitor news outlets, government websites, legislative activity, agency announcements, press releases, social media and other information sources for relevant developments.
  • Identify and prioritize information that is useful and important to California's Capitol community.
  • Write clear, concise summaries of news, policy developments and government activity.
  • Maintain and update calendars, event listings, appointments, hearings, regulatory notices and other recurring features.
  • Verify information and ensure the accuracy and completeness of published content.
  • Assist with original reporting and write occasional stories on state government, policy and politics.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with sources throughout California's Capitol community.
