About The Position

The Capernaum Coordinator is responsible for leading and developing the Capernaum ministry, which focuses on reaching adolescents with disabilities. This role involves spiritual development, leadership development, resource development, direct ministry, and administrative support. The coordinator must adhere to Young Life's Statement of Faith and policies, ministering as a servant of God with the primary responsibility of proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ. This position requires a vital relationship with Jesus Christ, strong leadership and relational skills, and a commitment to the mission of Young Life.

  • Must have completed Core Training —Phase One.
  • Proven leadership skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Must sign a Statement of Faith.
  • Must profess a belief in Jesus Christ as their personal Savior and Lord.
  • Must subscribe to the statements and policies required of all Young Life staff.
  • Must be ready, willing, and able to fulfill ministry functions.
  • Must refrain from conduct and statements that detract from biblical standards.
  • Must abide by all policies and practices of Young Life.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a yearly personal growth plan that fosters a vibrant spiritual life, including prayer, reflection, and church relationships.
  • Lead teams and individuals in spiritual development, ensuring ministry is designed with a dependence on prayer.
  • Partner with local area director and committee to cast vision for reaching every kid within the defined area.
  • Develop a subcommittee to represent the specific needs of teens with disabilities and their families, and to raise necessary funding.
  • Create a spiritual leadership plan for Capernaum volunteer leaders and subcommittee members.
  • Recruit and train new leaders to build leadership teams that reflect the community.
  • Train leaders and drivers in the physical care of kids with disabilities.
  • Provide quality summer staff, work crew, and adult guests for summer camps.
  • Model excellence in contact work, club, Campaigners, and camping to other leaders.
  • Train leaders, team leaders, and committee on effective teamwork and developing a yearly ministry strategy.
  • Provide leadership to the subcommittee in finding partners to support the Capernaum area vision and budget.
  • Develop a fundraising strategy for Capernaum and ensure excellent communication to donors.
  • Build the Young Life brand via public relations.
  • Conduct quality events that reflect Young Life’s capacity to impact kids.
  • Communicate the needs and successes of the local Capernaum ministry to the area committee.
  • Actively engage in all three levels of contact work.
  • Lead or co-lead a model Young Life club and an effective Campaigner ministry.
  • Develop and implement ongoing plans to maximize Gospel proclamation through camping opportunities.
  • Serve on a summer assignment at a Young Life property, camp, or in another position as requested.
  • Develop relationships with school administration, parents, and school aides to gain access to kids with disabilities.
  • Adhere to all Young Life policies and procedures, maintaining professionalism.
  • Maintain accurate information on kids, leaders, and donors for area records.
  • Provide clear, prompt, appropriate, and professional communication.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and congruent with gifts, experience, and area needs.
  • Accept both short- and long-term assignments of projects.
  • Meet weekly with supervisor.
  • Participate in additional training or experiences as deemed necessary.
  • Attend regional training as directed by the regional director.
  • Participate in programs designed for personal spiritual maturity or personal enrichment.
  • Pursue seminars designed to enhance professional skills.
  • Receive missionwide training as equivalent traditional staff.
