About The Position

North Carolina Asian Americans Together (NCAAT) and NCAAT in Action are seeking passionate, socially confident, and reliable individuals to serve as advocates for political themes of social justice and local issues within the community. This is a temporary, seasonal position running from Spring until Election Day, with potential for extension based on performance. As a Canvasser, you will engage in thoughtful, one-on-one conversations with voters to influence attitudes and perspectives on key issues and candidates. The role emphasizes building rapport, listening to personal stories, and gently challenging existing beliefs to foster long-term behavioral change, focusing on emotional engagement rather than mere persuasion or education.

  • Must be familiar with MiniVAN
  • Must own and operate their own vehicle
  • Must have a working cell phone with service

Responsibilities

  • Initiate in-person conversations with voters, creating a welcoming and non-judgmental space for them to express their views and experiences.
  • Use active listening techniques to understand individuals’ personal stories and emotional connections to issues.
  • Ask open-ended questions to explore their views on key issues and introduce information or alternative perspectives to encourage deeper reflection.
  • Collaborate with other team members to share insights and adjust strategy as needed based on feedback from canvassing efforts.
  • Ensure campaign goals are met by shifting voter attitudes and increasing support for the campaign or cause.
  • Be punctual, manage conversations at the doors, respond to other canvassers in a timely manner, and update and communicate with leads as needed.
  • Follow all canvass best practices and data quality standards.
