About The Position

The Oncology Clinic Registered Nurse (RN) provides high-quality, evidence-based nursing care to adult oncology and hematology patients in the outpatient clinic setting. The nurse serves as a clinical coordinator, educator, and patient advocate by assessing patient needs, coordinating diagnostic and treatment plans, managing symptoms, providing education, facilitating communication among the interdisciplinary team, and promoting continuity of care throughout the cancer journey. The position supports safe, efficient clinic operations while adhering to organizational policies, regulatory requirements, and oncology nursing best practices.

Requirements

  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Knowledge of oncology medications and treatment protocols
  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (ADN or BSN) from an accredited nursing program.
  • BLS and ACLS are required.
  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous nursing experience in oncology or a related field is preferred, but new graduates with a strong interest in oncology are encouraged to apply.
  • ONS Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate required within 6 months of hire.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN) certification is preferred or encouraged.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and psychosocial needs related to their cancer diagnosis and treatment.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including oncologists, nurse navigators, social workers, and pharmacists, to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Provide education to patients and their families about cancer treatments, side effects, and supportive care options. Empower patients to make informed decisions about their care.
  • Offer compassionate support and counseling to patients and families, addressing their concerns and emotional needs throughout the treatment process.
  • Processing provider orders, scheduling and tracking diagnostic testing, laboratory studies, imaging, procedures, referrals, and follow-up appointments.
  • Document all patient interactions, care coordination activities, clinical communications, and interventions accurately within the electronic health record.
  • Act as a patient advocate, ensuring that patients' rights and preferences are respected throughout their care journey.
  • Participate in quality assurance and improvement initiatives to enhance patient care and safety within the oncology unit.
  • Be prepared to respond to emergencies related to patient care, including administering life-saving measures as needed.
