About The Position

Arcadis is seeking a Market Sector Lead – Data Centers to drive the growth, leadership, and technical excellence of our data center design and engineering practice across Canada. This role sits within the Design & Engineering team and is both market‑facing and delivery‑oriented, responsible for winning work, leading in-house multi‑disciplinary design teams, and delivering complex, mission‑critical facilities for hyperscale, colocation, enterprise, and public-sector clients. The successful candidate will bring deep technical credibility, a strong professional network in the Canadian data center industry, and a proven ability to position and market Arcadis’ engineering talent to secure new opportunities. This individual will lead data center pursuits from early strategy and proposal development through detailed design and construction support, while shaping the long-term growth strategy for the market sector in Canada.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related);
  • Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in at least one Canadian jurisdiction (or ability to obtain).
  • 15+ years of experience in the design and delivery of data centers or other mission‑critical facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi‑disciplinary design teams on complex, large‑scale projects.
  • Strong client-facing experience, including pursuit leadership and proposal interviews.
  • Established network within the Canadian data center industry, with a track record of originating or influencing new work.
  • Solid understanding of: Power distribution and redundancy Mechanical cooling systems Sustainability and energy efficiency strategies Codes, standards, and DC-specific guidelines

Responsibilities

  • Act as Arcadis Canada’s Data Centre Market Lead, setting the vision, strategy, and growth roadmap for the sector.
  • Leverage established industry relationships (owners, developers, operators, contractors, and technology partners) to originate and secure new design assignments.
  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients on data center planning, design, resilience, sustainability, and future scalability.
  • Lead or support strategic pursuits, including: Go/no‑go decision-making Client engagement and positioning Proposal strategy, messaging, and pricing input Interview and presentation leadership
  • Represent Arcadis at industry events, conferences, and client forums, enhancing brand visibility in the Canadian DC market.
  • Collaborate with global Arcadis data center leaders to bring international expertise and best practices into Canada.
  • Provide technical and design leadership for data center projects across all phases: Master planning and site selection Conceptual and detailed design IFC documentation Construction administration and commissioning support
  • Lead and integrate multi‑disciplinary engineering teams, including structural, mechanical, electrical, fire/life safety, civil, and specialist consultants.
  • Ensure alignment with mission‑critical requirements, including: Redundancy and resiliency (Tier I–IV, Uptime Institute, client-specific standards) Power and cooling strategies Physical security and operational continuity Maintainability and lifecycle performance
  • Establish and uphold design quality standards, technical governance, and risk management across projects.
  • Act as Design Manager / Technical Lead on key marquee pursuits and flagship Canadian projects.
  • Lead the technical narrative and design approach for proposals and RFQs/RFPs related to data center projects.
  • Coordinate contributions from engineering disciplines to ensure clear, compelling, and client‑focused submissions.
  • Translate client needs into differentiated value propositions, highlighting Arcadis’ innovation, sustainability leadership, and technical depth.
  • Participate in commercial reviews, scope definition, fee development, and resource planning.
  • Champion the growth of Arcadis’ Canadian data center engineering capability, including mentoring senior engineers and emerging leaders.
  • Identify skills gaps and support recruitment and talent development within the DC market sector.
  • Collaborate with business leaders to align staffing, training, and career pathways with market growth.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and innovation within the design team.
