About The Position

The Campus Transportation Manager is responsible for providing safe transportation for up to 1,000 students daily while reducing operational costs. This role involves managing a team of up to 20 people and collaborating with campus leaders to ensure success. Requirements

  • GED or High School Diploma
  • Experience in the operation of large passenger vehicles, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • Ability to manage student behavior.
  • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with class P (passenger) and S (school bus) endorsements.
  • Completed bus driver safety training course.
  • Must be over 21 years old.
  • Pass alcohol and drug tests.
  • Pass DOT Physical Examination.
  • Bilingual Preferred (English/Spanish).

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safe transportation of all students with a goal of zero preventable incidents/accidents.
  • Oversee the daily operations of the dispatch office, monitoring two-way radios to address bus problems, lateness, and accidents.
  • Receive and respond to driver accidents, conduct internal investigations, gather information, and assist students and staff.
  • Respond to emergency calls after hours and on weekends.
  • Maintain an efficient operation with a Cost Per Mile below $3.70.
  • Develop driver schedules to ensure primary driving roles are fulfilled while on the clock.
  • Continuously audit team participation to ensure systems are not abused.
  • Monitor preventive maintenance to avoid costly repairs.
  • Serve as a substitute Bus Driver when needed.
  • Create a work environment with a minimum of 85% transportation staff retention.
  • Screen employees to ensure only qualified, quality, and dedicated individuals are hired, ensuring they understand expectations and work conditions.
  • Maintain the fleet in safe operating condition, achieving a 7% savings on maintenance costs over the previous year.
  • Ensure maintenance supplies are not over-purchased and PMs are done systematically.
  • Utilize Transfinder to create and update campus-level routes, ensuring no route exceeds its rated capacity by more than 10%.
  • Keep driver and student records up-to-date in Route Finder.
  • Utilize Synovia to analyze reports, comparing planned vs. actual routes and monitoring bus performance.
  • Communicate with school site staff, administrators, parents, and outside agencies to exchange information, coordinate activities, and resolve issues related to transportation, student behavior, and special accommodations.
  • Manage the Campus Transportation Assistant Manager and Campus Bus Drivers.
