About The Position

Barbier Security Group (BSG) is seeking a part-time (one day per week), qualified Campus Security Officer for a prestigious, private university in San Jose. The Campus Security Officer will play a critical role in maintaining a secure campus environment. The ideal candidate will be equipped with specialized skills in de-escalation and crisis management, ensuring the safety and well-being of our university community. This position requires a strong commitment to proactive security measures, effective communication, and rapid response to incidents. This team is directly responsible for the accurate documentation of routine and unusual events occurring on or near the facilities. The team must maintain an expert level of knowledge of the campus rules and always provide friendly professional interactions that promote safety to, and confidence from, the people that encompass the property.

Requirements

Must be at least 18 years old.
Eligibility to work in the United States.
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Possess a current California Guard Card License.
A valid Driver's License and a clean driving record are required for applicable sites.
Reliable transportation is necessary.
Proficient in basic computer and smartphone usage.
Must be able to speak, read, and write in English to create accurate reports; additional language skills are a plus.
Strong listening skills, patience, and compassion, particularly when interacting with community members experiencing emotional or psychological challenges.
Ability to remain calm in crisis situations, think critically, de-escalate conflicts, and communicate effectively.
Maintain a positive, professional demeanor in adherence to all laws, regulations, company policies, and confidentiality standards.
Ensure compliance with both company and client policies and procedures while being open to performance improvement.
Possess a clear understanding of emergency response procedures and protocols.
At least one year of experience in security, mobile patrol, or event staff roles.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Successfully pass a background check and drug screening.
Stand or Walk for Extended Periods: Ability to stand and walk for long shifts, often for several hours at a time, including traversing outdoor areas with uneven surfaces, without significant physical strain.
Climb Stairs: Regularly climb stairs and navigate multi-level buildings to perform patrols and check all areas.
Lift and Carry: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds to move or secure equipment and assist with other duties as necessary.
Physical Endurance: Ability to withstand various weather conditions during outdoor patrols, including hot, cold, rainy, or windy weather.
Manual Dexterity: Ability to handle and operate security equipment, such as radios, keys, and locks.
Run or Move Quickly: Ability to sprint short distances if needed to respond quickly to emergencies or incidents.
Physical Stamina: Capable of working long hours while remaining alert and focused throughout the shift. De-escalate stressful situations with professionalism and patience.
Kneeling and Bending: Ability to kneel, crouch, and bend to check low-level areas, secure entrances, or assist in emergencies.
Vision and Hearing: Strong vision and hearing to observe surroundings, monitor security systems, and detect alarms or sounds of distress.

Responsibilities

Perform regular patrols of assigned areas, including multi-level buildings and outdoor spaces, while standing or walking for extended periods

Maintain focus and remain alert throughout long shifts, ensuring the safety and security of the premises.
Assist in evacuations or other emergency responses, utilizing physical stamina and agility to support individuals in need.
Keep accurate and detailed activity logs, documenting all patrols, incidents, and observations during the shift.
Prepare comprehensive reports for any incidents ensuring records are clear and precise for review.
Uphold a professional and positive demeanor at all times, representing the company and its clients with integrity and respect.
Adhere to legal standards, company policies, and client-specific protocols.
Maintain grooming and uniform standards consistently to project a polished and authoritative presence.
