About The Position

This is a staffing pool for on-call Campus Security Officers in the Risk Management department. On-call Campus Security Officers are currently needed district wide with no dedicated shifts. This is a temporary staff position and will not exceed 599 hours in a year (Jan-Dec). Individuals will also backfill during absences or large events but will remain on-call year-round. On-call Campus Security schedules may be assigned at the Redwood, Table Rock or Riverside Campus as needed. Applications will be reviewed, and candidates will be contacted and interviewed as positions become available. If all open positions are filled and the pool is closed, you will receive an email notification. The position involves performing unarmed, uniformed security patrols and executing crime prevention measures to protect life and property. Moreover, it includes actively supporting student and staff initiatives, cultivating positive community relationships, collaborating with college administrators to address complaints, promptly reporting criminal incidents to local law enforcement, enforcing college policies, and meticulously documenting activities through report writing. The role also encompasses conducting safety and other related inspections to ensure compliance with regulations and mitigate workplace hazards and compliance. This involves identifying potential safety risks, implementing corrective measures as needed, and documenting findings to maintain a safe and secure environment for all stakeholders. The Assistant Director of Risk Management will provide daily supervision.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year of experience as a security officer, experience in law enforcement, or military experience.
  • Only degrees received from an accredited institution will be accepted: accreditation must be recognized by the office of degree authorization, US Department of Education, as required by ORS 348.609.
  • Final candidate will be required to provide official transcripts for required degree.
  • Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience which ensures the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute for the requirement(s).
  • Possess exceptional communication skills, both written and oral, enabling effective engagement with faculty, staff, students, and the public.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships that foster collaboration and trust within the campus community.
  • Ability to compose detailed and accurate reports, forms, and memos, showcasing a commitment to clear and transparent communication.
  • Strong organizational abilities, coupled with a keen attention to detail, ensure efficient management of tasks, schedules, and resources, contributing to maintaining the highest standards of campus security and safety.
  • Pass a pre-employment work capacity evaluation and criminal background check.
  • For assignments requiring operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a valid Oregon Driver’s License or the ability to obtain one within 30-days of employment, and maintenance of an acceptable driving record are required.
  • Must be able to complete a Department Field Training Program upon hire.

  • Knowledge of basic emergency response procedures, including first aid/CPR, fire safety, and evacuation protocols, is necessary for effectively responding to various emergencies on campus and understanding the importance of collaboration and coordination with local law enforcement agencies, emergency responders, and other campus stakeholders in ensuring safety and security.
  • Awareness of legal and ethical considerations relevant to campus security operations, including privacy laws, confidentiality requirements, and codes of conduct.
  • Willingness to stay updated on new developments, technologies, and trends in campus security and safety to improve practices and adapt to evolving threats and challenges continuously.
  • This position demands a high level of independent judgment in managing various situations that arise throughout the week, including emergency response decision-making and de-escalating situations.
  • It involves evaluating each scenario, independently developing creative solutions or recommendations, or collaboratively brainstorming solutions with others that address the needs of both the individual and the College while ensuring compliance with relevant laws, policies, and procedures.
  • The majority of daily issues, including immediate responses to emergencies and de-escalation of potentially volatile situations, are resolved by this individual. However, for highly complex, unique, potentially sensitive matters, or issues that could pose significant liability to the College, consultation with a supervisor is required before proceeding with a decision except during emergency situations where time is not available.
  • Must possess or obtain and maintain a current Unarmed Private Security Certification obtained through the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training from the State of Oregon within 120-days of employment.
  • Must possess or obtain an emergency medical Basic First Aid certification, Basic CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) certification, and Basic AED (Automated External Defibrillator) certification within six months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provides customer service, information, and assistance to students, staff, faculty, and the general public.
  • Regularly patrol and inspect college campus buildings and grounds to identify security concerns and areas requiring increased patrol.
  • Performs thorough investigations, gathering statements and conducting interviews with individuals involved in incidents.
  • Safeguards the confidentiality of information obtained while fulfilling responsibilities.
  • Establishes proactive measures to deter and address criminal activity on the college campus, particularly in preventing and mitigating incidents such as trespassing.
  • Acts promptly to respond to fire, medical, and other emergencies.
  • Assess the situation, coordinate external assistance if needed, secure hazardous areas, and serve as an initial responder during emergencies.
  • Assume on-scene incident command responsibilities until higher-ranking authorities arrive, ensuring effective management of the situation.
  • Participates in emergency preparation drills and evaluations.
  • Designated as essential personnel, responsible for reporting to work during scheduled and unscheduled college closures as directed.
  • Conducts and documents scheduled inspections of safety and emergency-related equipment and supplies.
  • Verify the functionality of various critical items, including but not limited to eye wash stations, emergency showers, first aid kits, bloodborne pathogen kits, fire extinguishers, AEDs, and Narcan kits.
