We seek an exceptional individual to join our team as the Campus Safety Specialist Lead (Security Officer II). Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Possession of a California Driver’s License
  • Successful completion of a background check and physical exam
  • Two years of related experience
  • Under general supervision, addresses a wide range of problems that require interpreting policies, developing recommendations for new procedures, and/or providing specialized training on security and crime prevention.
  • Provides lead work direction and/or coordination of security functions.
  • Projects may involve research and operational analysis to develop recommendations for procedural changes.
  • May provide regular support to the public safety dispatch and records functions.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable procedures and regulations related to security and/or public safety.
  • Familiarity with the California Penal Code.
  • Ability to read and interpret laws, rules, and regulations.
  • Working knowledge of police department radio codes and equipment.
  • Ability to use applicable automated and computerized public safety systems and databases.
  • Ability to plan and schedule unit work and provide lead work direction to Security Officer staff.
  • Ability to independently make effective decisions and judgments in emergency situations.
  • Ability to analyze operational issues and recommend procedural changes.
  • Ability to convey clear, concise communications and directions and conduct training for staff and the campus community.
  • Ability to author reports and draft operating procedures.
  • Ability to attend Police Officers Standards & Training (P.O.S.T.) programs related to public safety support and dispatch activities.
  • A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
  • CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information.
  • Failure to complete the background check satisfactorily may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in a related field may be substituted for one year of experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provides lead work direction, coordination, and training for security functions, in addition to general public safety operations, holistic safety, community engagement, and related community service functions performed by campus safety specialists.
  • Coordinates campus safety specialists for 24/7 operations, campus special events, conducting field training, and supporting the public safety communications and records functions.
  • May be involved in the development of operational procedures and protocols.
  • Patrols the Cal State Fullerton owned and controlled properties on foot, bicycle, and vehicle to maintain high visibility to protect the campus community and visitors from fire, theft, vandalism, threats, and other safety concerns.
  • Provides safety support to designated social workers and/or police officers during the response to people in crisis for situations that do not involve weapon(s) or violence.
  • When directed, transports people in crisis to designated facilities.
  • Provides safety escorts to community members.
  • Assists in the education, intervention, and enforcement of campus policies and regulations.
  • Proactively monitors security cameras and downloads footage to support investigations as part of the department’s crime prevention efforts.
  • Assists dispatch in answering non-emergency phone calls when needed and supports the property and evidence functions with records.
  • Assists the campus community in the event of an emergency pursuant to their training and department protocols, including assistance with evacuations and rendering immediate assistance to those in need.
  • Performs other administrative, security, and loss prevention related functions for the campus, including at the bookstore, library, campus housing, and other areas as deemed necessary.
  • Supports efforts to ensure equity and inclusion are incorporated into department operations, programs, services, and culture.
  • Represents CSUF PD and Cal State Fullerton by providing exceptional customer service while supporting the safety needs of the campus community.
  • Other duties as assigned.
