About The Position

The primary responsibility of the Campus Safety Officer is to protect life and property on university grounds. This involves patrolling campus roadways, walkways, parking lots, buildings, and residential areas via vehicle, cart, foot, or bicycle. The role includes performing security checks, responding to emergencies, observing and reporting suspicious activities, enforcing university policies and laws, assisting local law enforcement, conducting investigations, participating in crime prevention programs, and providing escorts. The officer will also serve as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Jeanne Clery Act and ensure legal requirements for campus parking are met. A commitment to Christian principles, ethical conduct, productivity, and supporting the mission and values of Fresno Pacific University is essential. The role requires timely completion of tasks with accuracy, clear communication, attentive listening, and productive collaboration.

Requirements

  • Demonstrate personal Christian faith and commitment to the Christian mission of the University.
  • Must have a valid California driver license and the ability to operate all equipment in the campus safety vehicle.
  • Must be able to successfully secure a Security Guard card issued by the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services (BSIS).
  • Must be able to successfully complete the PC 832 (powers of arrest) course.
  • Must be able to successfully secure the appropriate BSIS certifications for the carry of pepper spray and baton (straight, side-handle and collapsible).
  • Must be able to successfully pass and complete an American Red Cross First aid/CPR and AED certification course.
  • Must be able to successfully pass and complete a Taser certification course.
  • Each candidate must be at least 20 years of age by the date of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Completion of California basic or modular POST level I/II, or III academy (within the last three to five years).
  • Previous work experience in a university public safety department or law enforcement agency.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols university property to provide security and traffic control.
  • Performs physical security checks of campus facilities.
  • Responds to emergency and non-emergency radio calls.
  • Observes, reports, and identifies persons involved in suspicious activities.
  • Ensures unauthorized persons leave university property.
  • Enforces university policies, regulations, and laws.
  • Assists local law enforcement as necessary.
  • Conducts investigations and completes detailed reports.
  • Participates in crime prevention programs.
  • Assists Student Life and Residence Life personnel.
  • Provides on-campus escorts.
  • Serves as a Mandated Campus Security Authority (CSA) Reporter under the Federal Jeanne Clery Act.
  • Ensures all legal requirements for FPU campus parking are met.
  • Completes the Clery Report each year.
  • Demonstrates commitment to serving and inspiring students and colleagues in a Christian context.
  • Integrates Christian faith into role and responsibilities.
  • Embraces the mission, vision, and values of Fresno Pacific University.
