The Part-Time Campus Safety Officer is responsible for supporting the safety and security mission of the university by providing parking enforcement, transportation services, and general campus safety functions. Officers promote a safe, welcoming, and service-oriented environment while enforcing campus parking regulations, assisting students, faculty, staff, and visitors, and responding to routine safety concerns.

Responsibilities

  • Patrol campus parking lots and roadways by foot, golf cart, or patrol vehicle.
  • Enforce university parking regulations in a fair, consistent, and professional manner.
  • Issue parking citations for violations in accordance with university policies.
  • Monitor reserved, handicap-accessible, visitor, fire lane, and service vehicle parking areas.
  • Report abandoned, disabled, or illegally parked vehicles.
  • Assist with parking during campus events, athletic competitions, commencement, and special activities.
  • Direct vehicle and pedestrian traffic during periods of heavy congestion.
  • Document parking violations and maintain accurate enforcement records.
  • Assist in identifying parking concerns and recommend improvements.
  • Provide safe transportation for students, faculty, staff, and authorized visitors using department vehicles.
  • Transport students requiring assistance due to illness, injury, or emergency situations when appropriate.
  • Assist stranded motorists with approved services such as vehicle unlocks or jump-starts, when authorized by department policy.
  • Conduct routine inspections of transportation vehicles before and after each shift.
  • Report vehicle maintenance concerns promptly.
  • Maintain transportation logs and documentation.
