About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Director of Campus Safety, the Campus Safety Officer (CSO) is responsible to provide a safe and secure environment for the university community and all of its members and to provide a variety of services which enhance the quality of life on campus. This position can have assignments such as assisting with the operation of the Campus Safety Department through the front desk/telecommunication center, and or on foot or vehicle patrol handling calls for service. This position could be assigned to work on any of the three shifts (day, evening, or overnight shift), or an overlap of the two shifts. Weekends and special details are also required to provide 24/7, 365 days a year security and service to the main campus. This position is a Part Time position that works 20 hours/week.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable, must be able to be an Approved Park Driver.
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; through security reports, complaint and witness statements, and in assisting an providing general information to university community and visitors.
  • Sensitivity toward the cultural diversity of the campus community.
  • Park University requires consent and successful completion of a background screening.
  • Full disclosure of all felony and/or misdemeanor violations is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
  • Prior security experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Provides security for persons, buildings, and assists the university through a variety of security techniques and methods.
  • Patrols the campus in a manner consistent with Department Guidelines and University Policy.
  • Monitor CCTV system.
  • Responds to requests for assistance and information in a helpful and courteous manner.
  • Routine involvement in directing vehicular or pedestrian traffic.
  • Assists public, students, staff, and faculty by giving directions, information and other aid as needed.
  • Enforce appropriate university regulations and policies including, but not limited to parking and traffic regulations.
  • Must maintain up-to-date all security clearances, directory, logs, scanning data, and data entry.
  • Follow all Department Guidelines and University Policy.
  • Maintain up-to-date officer log, per Jeanne Clery Act.
  • Complete appropriate reports.
  • Required to communicate and coordinate/direct a number of simultaneous activities without confusion, sometimes under stressful conditions; provide rapid response to law enforcement and or any other emergency requirements needed to protect fellow officers.
  • Operate and utilize radio to communicate effectively to Campus Safety Officers.
  • Other projects assigned by the Director of Campus Safety.
