About The Position

The Campus Monitor supports a safe, welcoming, and orderly learning environment by providing active supervision of students throughout the school day. Working closely with the Deans of Students, faculty, and school administrators, this position promotes positive student behavior, reinforces school expectations, and responds proactively to student needs during lunch periods, recess, transitions, and other high-traffic times. The successful candidate builds positive relationships with students while maintaining consistent supervision and visibility throughout campus. We are seeking team members who demonstrate professionalism, exercise sound judgment, communicate effectively, and contribute positively to the Laboratory Schools community through collaboration, reliability, and student-centered support. This is a 10 month position.

Requirements

  • Proficiency with basic computer applications, including email and Microsoft Office.
  • High school diploma from an accredited institution or a GED certificate required.
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the school campus for extended periods.
  • Ability to move between multiple indoor and outdoor locations throughout the workday.
  • Ability to supervise students in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to respond quickly during emergencies or student safety incidents.
  • Ability to move tables, chairs, and other light equipment as needed to support cafeteria and school operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents in a school, youth development, recreation, childcare, or similar setting preferred.
  • Experience working with middle school and high school students preferred.
  • Experience supporting student behavior management or supervision strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide active supervision of middle school and high school students during assigned lunch periods, recess, hallway transitions, assemblies, and other designated supervision areas.
  • Monitor cafeterias, hallways, outdoor spaces, common areas, and other assigned locations to ensure student safety, appropriate behavior, and adherence to school expectations.
  • Build positive relationships with students while maintaining a visible, approachable, and professional presence throughout the school day.
  • Reinforce Laboratory Schools expectations regarding respectful behavior, appropriate language, electronic device use, dress code, and general student conduct.
  • Intervene promptly and appropriately when behavioral concerns arise, utilizing de-escalation techniques and seeking administrative support when necessary.
  • Collaborate closely with Deans of Students, faculty, Security, and school leadership to maintain a safe and supportive school environment.
  • Monitor student movement during arrival, lunch, recess, dismissal, and classroom transitions to ensure safe and orderly operations.
  • Assist with supervision of outdoor spaces, including Kenwood Mall, Jackman Field, Midway Plaisance, and other designated areas as assigned.
  • Support cafeteria operations by encouraging students to clean their eating areas, maintaining orderly lunch procedures, and assisting with resetting tables and common spaces following lunch periods.
  • Observe student interactions and identify potential safety concerns, conflicts, or policy violations, communicating significant incidents promptly to appropriate administrators.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of significant student incidents and communicate concerns to the appropriate Dean or Principal in a timely manner.
  • Support school events, assemblies, drills, emergency procedures, and other supervisory assignments as needed.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, confidentiality, and sound judgment in all interactions with students, families, faculty, staff, and visitors.
  • Perform all responsibilities in accordance with University policies and Laboratory Schools procedures.
  • Complete other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the Laboratory Schools.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
