About The Position

Under the direction of the school principal, this role supports the Diocese of St. Augustine's mission to educate, evangelize, and catechize youth in a Catholic school environment. The Campus Minister for Spiritual Accompaniment provides pastoral presence and spiritual support to students, faculty, staff, and families within a Catholic high school community. Rooted in the mission of Bishop Kenny High School, this role nurtures the holistic development of students through attentive accompaniment, pastoral counseling, and collaboration with campus partners. This position will also teach Religion classes as needed.

Requirements

Practicing Catholic in good standing with the Church and registered member of a Catholic parish faith community is preferred (for some teaching positions this is required; consult with the school principal).
A minimum of a master’s degree from an accredited Catholic college/university in Theology, Religion, Religious Studies, or Theological Studies from a Catholic college or University with credentials in pastoral care/counseling.
Endorsement by the bishop plus completed requirements in professional education study is required
Must complete at least 30 hours of approved professional development in the area of religious studies every three (3) years.
Must complete the Ministry Formation Program of the Diocese of St. Augustine (or another comparable ministry program approved by the Office of Christian Formation).
Ability to respect, promote, accommodate, and not be in conflict with the mission, moral and social teachings, doctrines and laws of the Roman Catholic faith in the way one speaks, acts and instructs.
Must maintain a valid driver’s license.
Must successfully pass the required criminal background check prior to employment and every five years; must complete Protecting God’s Children (PGC) workshop prior to employment.
Proficient in use of computer technology, including school-related software.
Ability to have flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapt appropriately.
Must consistently demonstrate a positive, friendly, respectful and caring attitude with colleagues, the public, and all one serves in word and deed.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate school-related events.
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, vendors, employees, and the general public.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Responsibilities

Recognizes and supports the unique Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
Works collaboratively with the principal to build the faith community, giving evidence of the lived Gospel values by personal example and by being an active member of a faith community.
Maintains physical and informational security at all times, respecting confidentiality and privacy.
Meet regularly with students as scheduled or as needed to address spiritual, emotional, and pastoral concerns.
Provide spiritual accompaniment to students, faculty, and staff, fostering a compassionate and faith-centered campus environment.
Offer pastoral counseling appropriate to a Catholic high school setting, with sensitivity to developmental, cultural, and spiritual needs.
Respond to pastoral needs identified by campus offices (including Dean of Students, Academic Dean, and Clinic), as well as those expressed by parents, guardians, teachers, students, or peers.
Partner with families to support the holistic success and well-being of students, coordinating care with deans, teachers, and other support personnel.
Maintain appropriate professional boundaries, respect confidentiality, and adhere to all mandatory reporting requirements.
Listen with compassion and respond with care to the hopes, concerns, and experiences of those seeking spiritual accompaniment.
Recognize and encourage awareness of God’s presence and work in the lives of students and the broader school community.
Works collaboratively in a positive, friendly and professional manner.
Adheres to all diocesan and school policies and regulations, while supporting the school’s spiritual, pastoral and educational mission.
Demonstrates effective planning skills by preparing lesson plans designed to implement and achieve academic goals and objectives, as adopted by the school.
Integrates Catholic religious curriculum, as articulated by the school.
Builds the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate and help plan school religious and service-related activities.
Demonstrates and effectively communicates knowledge and competency of academic and religious curriculum; ability to organize learning materials to maximize time, as well as engage and motivate students.
Establishes a consistent classroom management approach that promotes self-direction and a positive self-image.
Sets high standards for student behavior and manages inappropriate behavior effectively, in accordance with school policy.
Participates in continuous professional development as a lifelong learner.
Performs other related duties, as assigned.
