About The Position

The Campground Host is a seasonal volunteer position for the 2026 season with Cullman Parks, Recreation, & Sports Tourism (CPRST). This role involves providing information and rules to campers and visitors, answering questions about local services, and assisting with emergency contacts. Key responsibilities include maintaining written logs of incidents, regularly patrolling campground and recreational areas, and ensuring facilities like restrooms, picnic shelters, campsites, and swimming/fishing areas are safe and clean. The host is also responsible for performing light maintenance tasks such as groundskeeping, janitorial work, and general building maintenance. The position requires logging at least 30 hours of volunteer work per week, reporting vandalism or illegal behavior, and interacting with the public in a professional and friendly manner while adhering to CPRST's ethical and safety standards. The host must provide their own suitable living quarters (motor home, camper, or travel trailer) and maintain a clean host site.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of general emergency prevention and procedures.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in written form.
  • Must have current driver’s license.
  • Proof of auto liability insurance.
  • Functional cellular telephone.
  • Must meet Park Board volunteer standards, which includes a background check.
  • Experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and aptitude to perform the defined duties.
  • Provides a motor home, camper, or travel trailer suitable for living quarters.
  • Agrees to maintain the state required minimum liability insurance for all motor vehicles to be used in the performance of this agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Provides campground and recreational area information and rules to campers and visitors.
  • Answers visitors’ questions and provides information about local services and attractions.
  • Helps campers and visitors contact emergency assistance as needed.
  • Maintains written logs of incidents and submits to Resort Director within 24 hours of each incident.
  • Patrols campground and recreational areas on a regular basis to assess and report on the status of said areas.
  • Opens and closes recreational site gates as needed and/or scheduled.
  • Regularly inspects campground restrooms, picnic shelters, campsites, campfire pits, and swimming/fishing areas to ensure they are safe and clean for public use.
  • Immediately secures vandalized or unsafe facilities until they are repaired.
  • Provides a written report of damage and maintenance needs to Resort Director within 24 hours.
  • Performs some campground maintenance work including, but not limited to, groundskeeping, janitorial, and general building maintenance.
  • Logs at least 30 hours of volunteer work within the Resort each week.
  • Reports vandalism, illegal, or abusive behavior immediately to Resort staff and/or the local law enforcement agency.
  • Completes and submits the Incident/Accident Form to Resort Director within 24 hours of any incident.
  • Wears CPRST Volunteer identification and behaves in a professional, friendly, polite, and safe manner when interacting with the public and uses communication skills necessary to deal effectively in confrontational situations.
  • Performs duties according to the same standards as CPRST employees regarding ethics, safety, non-discrimination, confidentiality, respect for persons, work quality, and the like.
  • Completes the CPRST Volunteer Handbook Acknowledgment and all other required documents.
  • Maintains and submits time records to Resort Director monthly.
  • Provides a motor home, camper, or travel trailer suitable for living quarters.
  • Maintains a clean and attractive host site and camper or trailer.
  • Completes all CPRST required training.
  • Assumes all risks related to this assignment and, save and hold harmless, CPRST, its board of directors, and employees from any, and all, claims for damages or injuries to persons or property that occur in the course of performance of the Campground Host.
  • Agrees to maintain the state required minimum liability insurance for all motor vehicles to be used in the performance of this agreement.
  • Utilizes maintenance tools properly and with recommended protective equipment.
  • Acts as a team member with other Parks and Recreation staff, embracing and supporting the vision and mission of the CPRST Board of Directors and the City of Cullman.
  • Exhibits a high level of professionalism and ethics, working amicably with the Park Board, the Executive Director, Administrators, Personnel, Community, and Visitors.
  • Exhibits proficiency in written and oral communication.
  • Performs other duties as identified by Resort staff.
