About The Position

The Camp Nurse/Health Coordinator at the YMCA of the Jersey Shore Summer Camp intentionally fosters a cause-centered culture that is welcoming, genuine, hopeful, nurturing, and determined. Under the supervision of the Camp Director, the Nurse/Health Coordinator shall implement the health and safety practices and provide support and customer/member service to campers and families.

Requirements

At least 21 years of age
Experience working with children and supervising others, preferably in a camp setting
Enjoys and is physically able to work outdoors
Updated certifications-CPR, 1st Aid, Epi-pen, & AED certified prior to the start of camp

Responsibilities

Establish a positive and welcoming environment for children and families.
Arrive at your designated location at scheduled time, dressed appropriately, wearing required COVID related Personal Protective Equipment (Face covering, sneakers and socks, prepared for pool, and prepared to work (lunch, water bottle, sunscreen).
Adhere to all program and CDC standards including safety and cleanliness; sanitizing areas prior to use and after use; assist in maintaining equipment and supplies, and returning to proper storage spaces after each usage
Follow all CDC procedures and guidelines related to Covid screening when parents arrive to drop off campers.
Assume responsibility and cleanliness for the designated Isolation Room.
Build relationships with members exhibiting professionalism and positive attitude.
Provide accurate information to parents and guests using knowledge and understanding of the YMCA Policies and Procedures.
Multi-task and work under pressure while maintaining an organized work space, using problem solving skills and good communication to management of unresolved issues.
Assume responsibility for the safety and welfare of all campers.
Assure each camper participating in camp has a health form, and a list of any meds/allergies is given to Camp Director.
Store Medications properly in a secure location, and easily accessible in the isolation room; all medication in its original scripted bottle/package.
Maintain health records of all campers and staff.
Maintain a written daily log of all campers and staff who require attention throughout the camp day.
Maintain a record of all accidents to be submitted as required to the State of New Jersey after the close of camp.
Complete Accident/Injury report for YMCA with accurate information, and give to the Director within 24 hours. Maintain copies on file.
Maintain a sanitized, neat, and organized Medical Station.
Provide written or oral communication to camper’s parents as to camper’s incidents or accidents in camp, in a timely matter. Make follow up phone calls on serious incidents to assure communication with parents/guardian.
Attend mandatory Y Camp trainings set before opening of camp season.
Participate in staff functions when available (i.e. meetings, staff training, and family nights).
Promotes positive values and healthy habits in campers.
Act in accordance with YMCA philosophy and YMCA Camp goals, objectives and policies as stated in the Y staff manual/handbook, as well as the YMCA Core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, while on the job.
