About The Position

This position is responsible for assisting the Camp Nurse in the day-to-day medical needs of camp staff and campers, including reviewing medical information and dispensing medications as prescribed. The role ensures the health and safety of all participants by maintaining a safe environment according to ACA Health and Wellness Accreditation standards. The Camp Nurse Assistant will also support nursing staff during examinations and procedures and maintain the cleanliness and stock of the nurses' station.

Requirements

  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid.
  • Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury).
  • Possess the strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Requires endurance, such as climbing, standing, bending, stooping, and stretching.
  • Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate equipment and activities.
  • Requires a normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate camper activities/programs.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Have a willingness to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours delivering a program at the available facility.
  • Operate in daily exposure to the sun, heat, and varying environmental conditions.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Valid State Driver’s License
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of experience in medical and/or health, preferably in a camp or related environment.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Camp Nurse in the day-to-day medical needs of camp staff and campers.
  • Assists in reviewing medical information.
  • Assists the Camp Nurse in dispensing medications to staff and campers as needed according to the physician’s prescription.
  • Assists the nursing staff as needed.
  • Ensures the health and safety of all campers and staff by providing a safe environment as determined by the ACA Health and Wellness Accreditation standards.
  • Assists the Camp Nurse during examinations and procedures.
  • Keeps the nurses’ station clean and stocked.
