Camp Director Seasonal Recreation Department ESSENTIAL FUNCTION): Assist the Program Coordinator in every aspect of camp operations. Assists to insure compliance with department and city policies concerning payroll and employee management. Assists and oversees the camp operation including the Lead Counselor, Camp Counselors and Junior Camp Counselors. Speak with the public in person and on the phone; provide camp information; answer questions; involves standing or being in motion overseeing the staff, participating in daily activities, weekly field trips etc. for the entirety of the work shift. Assist in managing a supervision system, which includes, setting quotas of campers; setting and monitoring ratios between campers and counselors; implementing counting system during field trips; monitor separation of genders and ages during activities and overnights; setting safe practices, including, no camper left alone with a counselor, etc. Walk short and long distances throughout the facilities and during field trips; ground may be paved or unpaved, uneven, hilly, etc. Distances can be 3-5 accummulative miles during a week. Back up manpower for all the assigned areas in an emergency. Lead in disaster situations and evacuations according to department policy; react quickly to emergencies such as medical, physical and verbal altercations, illegal activities such as thefts, weapons, drug and alcohol possession, inclement weather and lightening and thunder occurrences; accurately document in writing timely incident reports, accident reports, handle the sensitivity of a special needs child; think ahead and be aware of the camp surroundings and report any unusual people or situations to the Camp Manager or Program Coordinator. Perform additional duties as assigned or necessary to the operation of the Sharonville Recreation Department. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Abide by the Sharonville Policies and Procedures and Standards of Conduct . 2. Demonstrate a pattern of reliable and predictable attendance. 3. Attend mandatory management training sessions. 4. Assist in setting short and long term goals for the camp division and staff; assist in developing camp policies and activities. 5. Be available for regular meetings in all these areas. MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE CHARACTERISTICS: (indicates developed after employment) Knowledge of: City and Department Policies; facility rules and regulations and ability to inform public and enforce. Working knowledge of camp management; including knowledge of Federal, State and Local health regulations such as communicable diseases, food and insect allergies; special needs requests etc. Familiarity with first aid and risk management principles to prevent injuries and avoid hazardous situations. Skill in: Customer service and public relations; troubleshooting with diplomacy and tact while maintaining control of personal emotions. Multi-tasking, including handling multiple customers. Leading, coaching and managing staff. Ability to: Insure confidentiality; promote the city and department in a favorable light at all times. Understand the brand and image of the department and city and comply within those guidelines and standards. Be a role model for other staff by following all department and city guidelines, policies and conduct. Deal with difficult issues; assist and/or conduct internal investigations; ability to disarm confrontation with parents, public and between staff members; write professional reports and incidents to be used in legal proceedings. Lift up to 35 pounds, stand or walk for long periods of time. Frequently bend from floor to knee, floor to waist, floor to chest, floor to shoulders and floor to overhead. Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered to be light-medium work.
