About The Position

Under the supervision of the Camp Program Director or their Designee, this role is responsible for leading camp activities and supervising youth in the camp program. The position involves ensuring the health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, and development of campers, while also preparing, setting up, and cleaning up activities. The Camp Lead Counselor will lead the group through the daily schedule, ensuring participant safety at all times, promoting safe behaviors, and improving the quality of children's interactions. The role requires participation in all activities with participants and serving as a role model, while adhering to all state regulations and City and Department policies and procedures. Attendance at all required training is mandatory, and other duties as assigned will be performed.

Requirements

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Working knowledge of camp activities, materials, rules, supplies, equipment, etc.
  • Ability to develop and implement summer camp activities.
  • Ability to operate department equipment.
  • Ability to plan and coordinate activities.
  • Ability to understand and anticipate problems.
  • Ability to enforce department policies and procedures.
  • Ability to supervise.
  • Ability to interpret written instructions, reports, maps, manuals and schematics.
  • Ability to establish successful working relationships with employees and the public.
  • Use good professional judgment, honesty, and integrity in decision making.

Responsibilities

  • Provides group supervision of campers with attention to program, health, happiness, discipline, cleanliness, safety, routine duties, character, and skill development.
  • Prepares, sets up, and cleans up activities.
  • Leads group through daily schedule while assuring the safety of participants at all times.
  • Promotes safe behaviors and improves the quality of children’s interaction with one another.
  • Participates in all activities with participants and serves as a role model.
  • Observes all state regulations and all City and Department policies and procedures.
  • Attends all required training.
  • Performs other duties and activities as assigned.
