About The Position

Do you love the outdoors and have a passion for youth development and leadership? Join the Greater Burlington YMCA as the Camp Director of Y Adventure Camp and lead a nature-based day camp that empowers youth ages 8 to 13 through exploration, play, and connection with the natural world. Located on the scenic Rock Point property in Burlington, this camp provides children with a unique opportunity to build confidence, friendships, and a love for the outdoors. As Camp Director, you’ll lead a dedicated team, manage day-to-day operations, and ensure a safe, inclusive, and enriching summer experience for every camper. Schedule and Location: June 1st- August 17th , Monday- Friday 8:00am-4:00pm, on the beautiful property of Rock Point- 20 Rock Point Rd, Burlington, Vermont Why You’ll Love This Job: Spend your summer outside in a beautiful, natural setting. All Y staff receive a free Y membership! What You’ll Do: Oversee the daily operations of Rock Point Camp, ensuring a safe, structured, and fun environment. Supervise and support camp counselors, fostering a collaborative and inclusive team culture. Create and manage weekly staff schedules to ensure appropriate coverage and smooth operations. Plan and lead engaging, nature-based activities such as hiking, swimming, and group games. Monitor camper behavior, staff performance, and safety procedures in all camp areas, especially near water and in wooded spaces. Communicate clearly and professionally with camper families, Y leadership, and partner organizations. Ensure proper implementation of all Y safety protocols, emergency procedures, and risk management strategies. Adapt activities based on camper needs, staff capacity, and environmental conditions (e.g., weather). Promote the health and well-being of all campers through hydration, sunscreen application, and regular rest breaks. Maintain accurate records, including attendance, incidents, and staff hours using the YMCA payroll system. Assure accuracy and approve timecards, submitting to payroll in a timely manner. Uphold and model the Y’s core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility. Requirements Qualifications: Must be at least 21 years of age. Experience supervising staff and leading teams, preferred. 2+ years experience with children ages 8-13. CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain). Lifeguard certification, preferred (or willingness to obtain). Previous experience in a camp, recreational, or educational setting preferred. Strong communication and teamwork skills. Ability to engage in active participation in all aspects of the program, including hiking trails, swimming in the lake, and other outdoor activities. Ability to navigate camp property, including uneven terrain and remote areas. Ability to stand and stay active for long periods, including frequent movement such as kneeling, bending, stooping, crouching, and reaching. Ability to respond quickly and appropriately to the physical and emotional needs of children, including in emergency situations. Ability to work in and adapt to all weather conditions including rain, heat, mud, bugs, and more. Salary Description $21.00-$23.00/hour

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • 2+ years experience with children ages 8-13.
