About The Position

We are seeking a motivated Assistant Camp Director to help lead daily operations at our outdoor summer camp. The role supports staff, ensures camper safety, and helps create a fun, engaging environment. Ideal for strong leaders who enjoy working outdoors with children. Position Summary: The Assistant Camp Director supports the planning, coordination, and execution of all day-to-day camp operations. Working under the supervision of the Camp Director, this position helps ensure a safe, fun, and enriching environment for all campers and staff. The Assistant Camp Director plays a key leadership role in program development, staff supervision, parent communication, and adherence to YMCA policies and values. Essential Responsibilities: Assist in the development and delivery of camp programs that align with YMCA mission and goals. Support the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of camp counselors and program staff. Help create and maintain a safe and inclusive environment for campers, ensuring proper supervision and risk management at all times. Coordinate daily camp schedules, activities, and special events. Serve as a point of contact for parent communication, handling questions, concerns, and feedback with professionalism. Monitor and manage behavioral or disciplinary issues, following YMCA policies and procedures. Assist with logistics and operations, including equipment, supplies, transportation, and facility use. Support and model the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility. Fill in for the Camp Director as needed to ensure smooth operations. Qualifications: Minimum age: 21 years (or as required by state licensing regulations). Bachelor’s degree in recreation, education, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered. Prior experience in camp leadership, youth programming, or recreation management required. Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of children, staff, and parents. CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications (or willingness to obtain). Must pass a background check and meet all YMCA and state child safety requirements. Work Environment & Schedule: Seasonal position (typically summer months). Must be available to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, and occasional weekends. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor camp environments, sometimes in varying weather conditions. Requirements
