About The Position

The Camp Manager – Facilities provides strategic leadership for the year-round operation, maintenance, and stewardship of Camp Cedar Falls. This position oversees facilities, personnel, budgets, safety, and capital improvements while ensuring a secure, welcoming, and Christ-centered environment that supports the mission of the Southern California Conference.

Responsibilities

  • Support camp-wide initiatives that strengthen the spiritual mission of the camp.
  • Maintain a distinctly Christ-centered atmosphere throughout all camp programs and operations.
  • Ensure that camp activities are consistent with the beliefs, mission, and values of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
  • Model Christian character, integrity, hospitality, and respect in relationships with employees, campers, volunteers, guests, vendors, and community partners.
  • Develop and recommend an annual ministry and operational plan for Camp.
  • Develop and implement strategies to increase year-round utilization of the camp.
  • Build strategic partnerships that expand the camp’s ministry impact.
  • Evaluate program effectiveness using attendance, guest satisfaction, and spiritual outcomes.
  • Promote the camp in cooperation with SCC Communication and participating departments.
  • Coordinate and support the Youth director in delivering summer camp and other youth-focused programs.
  • Cultivate relationships with formers campers and staff, camp families, churches, supporters, and donors to identify and support funding opportunities, grants, sponsorships, and donor-funded capital projects.
  • Coordinate with the Youth Ministries Department in planning and delivering summer camp and other youth-focused programs.
  • Oversee or support retreats: church events, school activities, training events, family camps, and other approved uses of the property.
  • Support group registration.
  • Provide welcoming, responsive, and professional experience for campers, churches, schools, retreat groups, employees, volunteers, and guests.
  • Oversee reservations, contracts, check-in and check-out procedures, lodging assignments, food service, housekeeping, and guest communication.
  • Establish and communicate clear expectations for facility use, conduct, safety, payment, and care of property.
  • Respond promptly and appropriately to guest concerns and service needs.
  • Recruit, recommend, train, supervise, evaluate, and develop year-round and seasonal employees in accordance with SCC employment policies.
  • Develop, administer, and monitor the camp operating budget and recommend corrective actions to maintain fiscal responsibility.
  • Work with Conference Human Resources to ensure that hiring, scheduling, supervision, discipline, and termination practices comply with applicable policies and laws including background screening, child-protection training, safety training, and position-specific certifications.
  • Foster a healthy workplace characterized by accountability, teamwork, cultural sensitivity, and mutual respect.
  • Prepare an annual operating and capital budget in consultation with the Conference Treasurer/CFO and other designated administrators.
  • Monitor operating budgets, revenue, expenditures, purchasing, inventory, reservations, and payroll information for accuracy and fiscal accountability.
  • Establish appropriate internal controls for handling money, deposits, registrations, purchasing, and camp property.
  • Obtain required authorization before entering contracts, making major purchases, or committing Conference resources.
  • Address employee concerns and workplace conflicts in consultation with Conference Human Resources, as appropriate.
  • Foster opportunities for professional and spiritual growth among staff and campers.
  • Oversee the care, cleanliness, repair, and responsible use of all camp buildings, grounds, roads, utilities, equipment, vehicles, recreational areas, and natural resources.
  • Develop and maintain preventive-maintenance schedules and accurate records of inspections, repairs, warranties, and equipment servicing.
  • Identify deferred maintenance and capital needs and recommend priorities to Conference administration.
  • Coordinate approved construction and renovation projects with the Asset/Risk Management Department and other designated Conference personnel.
  • Ensure that water systems, sanitation systems, kitchens, lodging facilities, recreational areas, fire-protection systems, and other essential infrastructure are maintained appropriately.
  • Prepare the camp for seasonal weather conditions, including snow, freezing temperatures, storms, flooding, wildfire danger, and restricted road access.
  • Ensure Water purification system meets state standards.
  • Develop productive relationships with local agencies, neighboring property owners, vendors, service providers, emergency responders, and community organizations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, county, fire, environmental, health, labor, accessibility, and camp-related regulations.
  • Develop and maintain current emergency-response plans addressing wildfire, evacuation, severe weather, medical emergencies, missing persons, utility interruption, natural disasters, active threats, and other foreseeable emergencies.
  • Ensure that required permits, licenses, inspections, certifications, insurance documentation, and incident records remain current.
  • Report accidents, injuries, allegations, property damage, and other significant incidents promptly according to SCC policy.
  • Cooperate fully with governmental authorities, insurers, emergency responders, and Conference leadership when incidents occur.
  • Ensure compliance with SCC child protection policies, AB 506 requirements, Live Scan requirements, mandated reporter requirements, and other applicable Conference safety policies.
  • Attend meetings and serve on committees as requested by Conference administration.
  • Comply with policies and procedures of SCC, including but not limited to those in the Employee Handbook, the Pacific Union’s Education Code, and the North American Division Working Policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
