FMG Camp Counselor - Seasonal
About The Position
The Southeast Ventura County YMCA is hiring Camp Counselors for their Find My Genius program that enriches, inspires and transforms children into scholars. Join the fun this summer where you will discover your passions and make an impact in your community! We are looking for exceptional role models to lead our scholars during our summer Find My Genius program. FMG summer Camp will run from June 15, 2026 to July 17, 2026 in Simi Valley at Parkview Elementary School. Must be available from 7:30am-5:00 pm. Candidates should have experience in working with and leading children along with a willingness to grow with our educational environment. FMG Counselors take a large responsibility for the safety, health and well-being of our scholars throughout the day. Requirements
- Minimum 17 years (18 preferred)
- 3 mo.- 1-year previous S.T.E.M. Classroom/Camp/Club experience
- Basic knowledge of acceptable childcare and day camp practices.
- Ability to plan and lead program activities.
- Intent or currently pursuing a BA, BS, or associate's degree in education or related field
- Desire to work with elementary scholars and their families in under-resourced communities.
- All required online training must be completed before starting work, which will be compensated for accordingly.
- Pediatric First Aid and CPR certifications through a nationally recognized organization, such as American Red Cross or American Heart Association Heartsaver course. Class must be taken as an in-person class or through a blended mode. Classes that are completed online will not meet this requirement. Certifications must be maintained and current for the entire duration of employment.
- Criminal records clearance.
Responsibilities
- Implements curriculum and program activities within the established guidelines.
- Nurtures children through purposeful programming dedicated to building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
- Supervises the children, classroom or site, and all activities including ADA accommodations where appropriate.
- Follows all policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies.
- Continuously scans a variety of environments and surrounding areas for potential hazards and takes appropriate action to remove or avoid them and informs senior staff.
- Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
- Uses positive reinforcement techniques to address children’s behavioral concerns.
- Maintains program site and equipment.
- Maintains required program records.
- Attends scheduled staff meetings, trainings and completes all assigned on-line trainings.
- Attends and participates in family nights, as well as program activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
