About The Position

Under the supervision of the Camp Director or the Assistant Camp Director, the Camp Youth Development Professional's role is to maintain groups of Campers, ensure their safety, and help them navigate their day at Camp. This is a fast-paced, active child-focused environment that requires constant interaction and attention to the needs of the children. The employee will work primarily outdoor activities for the duration of the camp session.

Requirements

  • At least 16 years of age; 16- and 17-year-olds must have valid Working Papers.
  • Minimum one-year experience working with youth preferred, preferably in an organized program setting.
  • Experience should include providing guidance on life
  • Reliable means of transportation to and from the Camp.
  • Excellent interpersonal and human relations skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic personality.

Nice To Haves

  • Minimum one-year experience working with youth preferred, preferably in an organized program setting.

Responsibilities

  • Create an optimum camp experience by helping youth achieve their expected goals; develop positive self-identity, core competencies, giving youth a sense of community and civic involvement, increasing their awareness of good health and well-being, and instilling a good moral compass in order to build positive relationships.
  • Support the Five Key Elements which include a safe and positive environment, fun, supportive relationships, opportunities and expectations, and recognition.
  • Assist in creating, planning and facilitating camp programs including but not limited to fishing, art, Future Leaders in Training and Counselors in Training programs, physical education, and special events
  • Lead camp members in a variety of safe and age-appropriate activities and interactive play.
  • Solve conflicts in a manner which will result in a positive outcome for the youth.
  • At all times, supervise members during all activities in and outside of the building.
  • Escort members to restrooms and to activities.
  • Assist other staff by serving meals and snacks.
  • Assist in keeping the camp clean at all times.
  • Attend, participate and, at times, present at scheduled staff meetings and training.
  • Assist with the training and mentoring of new Camp Youth Development Professionals.
  • As needed, maintain consistent communication with Directors, informing them of issues or positive progress.
  • Assist in the inventory of food, games, and daily supplies to ensure every member has access to necessary resources each day.
  • Ensure all activities are executed in a safe manner for all Campers.
  • Demonstrate initiative in learning about and implementing skills related to diversity.
  • Support and communicate with supervisors and co-workers in a cooperative manner.
  • Model and practice sensitivity, fair treatment and acceptance of diversity with members, co-workers, and in all other interpersonal interactions.
  • Be aware of the location of the Campers at all times.
  • Ensure the camp is properly secured at all times.
  • Assist in performing daily safety checks to identify potential and existing hazards and report any dangers to your Supervisor.
  • Report all accidents/incidents immediately and assist with necessary documentation.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of BGCNT.
  • May be required to participate in and supervise water activities for the Campers.
  • May be required to complete the necessary CPR/First Aid and Lifeguard Management training depending on camp location before camp begins.
