About The Position

Camp Counselors will serve as mentors, role models, and support staff for young campers, ensuring a safe, fun, and positive environment on and off the ice. This role combines leadership, recreation, and supervision with a strong focus on youth development and teamwork. The University of New Hampshire is committed to providing a safe environment for all persons, including but not limited to children, and to prevent and respond to abuse, neglect and crimes against children. All UNH youth program staff shall be subject to a criminal background check as required by NH State Law. Staff and volunteers will also be required to complete periodic child safety training.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and remain flexible in a dynamic environment.
  • Positive attitude, high energy, and a strong sense of responsibility.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working with children or in a camp setting is preferred.
  • Knowledge of or interest in hockey is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise a group of campers ages 6 to 13, ensuring their safety, well-being, and participation.
  • Provide support during hockey training sessions, assisting coaches as needed.
  • Lead or assist with off-ice activities such as team-building exercises, games, and meals.
  • Foster a respectful, inclusive, and encouraging camp environment.
  • Address minor behavioral issues and escalate larger concerns to senior staff.
  • Ensure campers adhere to camp rules, schedules, and safety protocols.
  • Build strong, positive relationships with campers while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Attend and participate in all staff meetings, training sessions, and debriefs.
  • Provide first-level emotional support and be attentive to campers’ needs.
