About The Position

Camp Korey is a non-profit organization that provides a free, medically safe, and adaptable environment for children with life-altering medical conditions to experience the joys of childhood and the impact of camp. The organization serves thousands of campers and family members annually, fostering a community of shared experiences. The Camp Counselor / Seasonal Family Pal role is a seasonal position focused on creating engaging moments for campers and caregivers, ensuring their safety and support, and fostering connections. This role involves working with a different family each week, acting as their primary contact, guide, and cheerleader. The Camp Korey experience includes adapted traditional camp activities like archery, arts & crafts, and pool time. This position is full-time, onsite in Mt Vernon, WA, from June 21 to August 15, 2026, with a salary of $4333 for the 8-week season, plus room and board. The role reports to the Cabin Life Lead and collaborates with the entire staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum Age of 18
  • Commitment to the entire length of the contract term: JUNE 21-AUGUST 15 2026
  • Ability to learn and use necessary computer software (equivalent of social media).
  • Commitment to bringing a continuous improvement mindset to the services provided and your own growth.
  • Physical ability to sustain 10+ hour days of activities, functional ability to clean and participate in activities.
  • Immunization history with current vaccines and boosters including COVID
  • Acceptable background check clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Camp experience, especially work experience, particularly at a SeriousFun or other specialized camp.
  • Life or professional experience with children ages 4-17.
  • Life or professional experience supporting individuals with life-altering or complex medical conditions.
  • Communication capability in multiple languages.
  • CPR / AED Certification

Responsibilities

  • Partnering with a family each week to help them feel welcomed, supported, and empowered at camp.
  • Guiding families through the daily schedule, helping them engage in activities comfortably, and creating meaningful moments of connection.
  • Providing emotional support to caregivers/parents, including regular and positive feedback, celebration of achievements, awareness of family dynamics, and campers' fears and concerns.
  • Maintaining awareness of campers’ medical and emotional needs and communicating concerns promptly to the appropriate team.
  • Assisting campers with personal care tasks when needed, with respect, dignity, and support from the Medical and Cabin-Life teams.
  • Working alongside volunteers to create a smooth, fun, and safe experience for families, offering guidance and support.
