About The Position

The Camp Counselor Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the smooth operation and positive experience of camp programs within the public administration sector. This position involves assisting lead counselors in organizing and supervising daily activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of all campers. Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
  • Basic knowledge of child supervision and safety practices.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, and team members.
  • Valid certification in Standard First Aid and CPR or willingness to obtain prior to camp start.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills daily to engage effectively with campers and colleagues, fostering a supportive and inclusive camp environment.
  • Organizational skills are essential for assisting in the preparation and execution of camp activities, ensuring that events run smoothly and safely.
  • Problem-solving abilities are frequently applied to address unexpected situations or camper needs promptly and appropriately.
  • Leadership and teamwork skills to support lead counselors and contribute positively to the camp community.
  • First aid and safety skills are critical for maintaining a secure environment and responding to any health-related incidents during camp operations.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working with children or in a camp setting is preferred but not mandatory.
  • Experience in public administration or community program support.
  • Training or coursework in child development, recreation, or education.
  • Additional certifications related to outdoor activities or specialized camp programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team-oriented environment and manage group dynamics.
  • Bilingual abilities, particularly in English and French, to support diverse camper populations.

Responsibilities

  • Assist lead counselors in planning and facilitating daily camp activities and events.
  • Supervise campers to ensure their safety, well-being, and positive behavior throughout the camp day.
  • Support the setup and cleanup of activity areas and camp facilities.
  • Help monitor camper attendance and communicate any concerns or incidents to senior staff promptly.
  • Engage with campers to encourage participation, teamwork, and respect among peers.
  • Assist in enforcing camp rules and policies consistently and fairly.
  • Provide first aid or emergency assistance as needed, following established protocols.
  • Collaborate with the camp team to adapt activities to meet the diverse needs and interests of campers.
