About The Position

The Camp Behavior & Support Coordinator collaborates with the Camp Director, DYS, Divisional PTM Coordinator, and appropriate staff regarding notices of concern, incident reports, and related reporting procedures, including communication with local authorities and Child Protective Services when necessary. This role is also the first staff to drive campers/staff to the Emergency Room or Urgent Care when necessary, and will be accompanied by another adult in minor situations. The coordinator will also assist the Program Director with schedules and paperwork to ensure the daily program runs effectively. All staff may be called upon at any time to assist in the total operation of the camp and are expected to be involved in the total camp program, including joining all evening programs unless excused by the Program Director.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • At Least 2 Years of experience in child development.
  • Background and experience in child safety.
  • Knowledge and Experience in The Salvation Army general policies and Protecting the Mission Policies
  • Must be 21 years or older to drive.
  • Must possess a valid CA Driver License.
  • Complete TSA driver safety course.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous camping experience either as a camper or as a staff member.

Responsibilities

  • Supporting the accurate documentation and follow-through of child and staff safety concerns, in collaboration with the Camp Director, DYS, Divisional PTM Coordinator, and appropriate staff to ensure alignment with internal and external reporting procedures.
  • Ensuring that all reports are handled appropriately and in a confidential manner.
  • Partnering with the Divisional PTM Coordinator to support counselors and reporting staff in understanding the reporting process and accurately completing required documentation.
  • Ensuring all reports are completed from start to finish.
  • Ensuring all Protect the Mission procedures are being followed appropriately.
  • Working with reporting staff member to contact parent(s) about an incident regarding their child’s wellbeing when necessary.
  • Communicating with the Camp Director and DYS regarding any situations where a child’s safety is at risk or cannot be adequately ensured at camp.
  • Taking all staff or campers to local doctor’s office, the Emergency Room, or Urgent Care when necessary.
  • Collaborating with the Camp Nurse with duties when needed if campers are impacted by both emotional and physical wellbeing to ensure camper success and guardian communication when necessary.
  • Providing direct support for campers experiencing behavioral, emotional, or social challenges.
  • Assisting staff in implementing developmentally appropriate behavior management techniques.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation of behavioral concerns, interventions, communication with guardians, and follow-up actions.
  • Completing any additional administrative and assistive duties as directed by the Camp Director & DYS.
