About The Position

This position is responsible for inspecting, testing, maintaining, and repairing fire alarm systems, medical alarm devices, and other life-safety equipment across assigned facilities. The position ensures compliance with NFPA standards, local fire codes, and OSHA regulations while maintaining accurate documentation of inspections, testing, and repairs.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to assigned facilities.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain required NICET certification and other applicable state or local licenses within eighteen (18) months of hire.
  • Knowledge of electrical systems and low-voltage wiring.
  • Knowledge of safety standards.
  • Knowledge of NFPA standards, including familiarity with NFPA 72, and local fire codes.
  • Knowledge of fire alarm and life-safety systems and equipment.
  • Knowledge of applicable inspection, testing, maintenance, and documentation requirements.
  • Skill in reading and interpreting technical documents.
  • Skill in following procedures and completing accurate reports.
  • Skill in performing preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repairs.
  • Skill in using tools, meters, and testing devices.
  • Skill in leading small projects and working effectively with contractors and facility staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical or vocational training in electronics, fire/life-safety systems, or a related field.
  • Two or more years of experience in fire alarm inspection, testing, or repair.
  • NICET Level I or higher in Fire Alarm Systems preferred.
  • Manufacturer-specific training (e.g., Notifier, Siemens, Simplex, Bosch) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs annual inspections and functional testing of building fire alarm systems, medical alarms, and life-safety devices.
  • Conducts monthly tests of fire alarm control panels and system batteries to ensure reliability.
  • Inspects, tests, and repairs emergency exit signs, emergency lighting, and related safety equipment.
  • Completes preventive maintenance and performs basic troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Maintains detailed reports and documentation in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with and oversees outside contractors during monthly and annual inspections or service work.
  • Obtains and maintains required certifications, including NICET certification and applicable state or local licenses.
  • Stays current with industry codes, NFPA standards, and best practices for fire alarm and life-safety systems.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
