Camera Calibration and Test Engineer

AppleCupertino, CA
Onsite

About The Position

As part of Apple's Camera Technologies group, this role involves designing and developing groundbreaking ideas for camera systems, from sensor to lens. The Camera Calibration and Test team is pivotal in upholding product quality across all Apple products with built-in cameras, including iPhones, iPads, MacBooks, Mac Displays, and Apple Vision Pro. The team manages camera calibration and test coverage at module integrators (MIs) and VCM vendors to ensure high-quality standards are met. This role offers an opportunity for individuals passionate about camera technology to make a positive impact on the quality of cameras on Apple products. The individual will manage vendors and projects, overseeing test maturity preparation and setting priorities for Module Integrators (MI). This role requires proactive participation in post-build FACA activities and working with MIs to implement improvements such as enhancing tester UPH, retest rates, and efficiency. The role involves engaging with a broad spectrum of technical areas including CMOS image sensor test, high-speed data link signal integrity, I2C and driver operation, VCM actuation, lens quality, close-loop performance, and position sensor calibration effectiveness. Collaboration with multi-functional groups at Apple, such as position sensing, image sensor, mechanical design, EE, and OPS teams, is essential to explore and define test coverage. Typical test coverage includes SFR test, VCM and OIS calibration, Open-short test, electrical noise, color calibrations, dark noises, and distortion calibration. The engineer will work with MIs and vendors to design and implement cost-effective test hardware and software solutions, supervise MIs on manufacture preparation and progress, and perform qualification and checks to ensure solutions are approved. This requires an ardently meticulous engineer. Travel to MIs in Asia on an as-needed basis for periods of 2 weeks at a time is expected.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Color Science, Imaging Science, or related field.
  • Experience in at least 1 of the following domains: (CMOS Image Sensor Test or Validation, Lens quality analysis and testing, ATE, VCM Actuation and position sensor calibration and test, Image quality analysis, or Data analysis and visualization).
  • 3 years of relevant industry experience.
  • Ability to perform assignments at both a theoretical, high-level as well as practical detailed-level (concrete).
  • Proficiency in managing a team of vendor members for specific tasks and experience hosting cross-time zone meetings, with a focus on accommodating ESL participants.
  • Experience in breaking down complex assignments into manageable, executable tasks.
  • Possess data analysis knowledge and experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Second-language skills in Korean, Japanese, or Mandarin Chinese are a notable asset.
