About The Position

The Calling and Career Coach serves as a critical member of the Calling and Career team. This position is uniquely designed to provide students with personally tailored support in their vocational journey and is responsible for establishing student relationships for the purpose of coaching in all areas of self-discovery as it relates to calling, major exploration, life-planning, professional development, and job and internship searching and preparation. This position will serve a variety of campus populations including prospective students, undergraduates, graduate students, alumni, and employers.

Must be able to perform the following: talking, hearing, and seeing.
Must have sufficient manual dexterity to be able to operate all office equipment including, but not limited to computers, printers, copiers, scanners, and telephones.
Individuals must recognize that management of data, including personal information, grades, budgets, programs, and policies is necessary to the operation of the College. Such information must be kept private and confidential for the protection of the College and to obey Federal and/or State laws. Must be able to reason, analyze, prioritize, conceptualize, make judgments, and solve problems.
A successful candidate will have an in-depth understanding that each person has a unique and created design informed by their personal Christian faith and worldview.
We are looking for a highly discerning professional with a desire to help students grow in self-awareness and their God-given calling.
A successful candidate will have experience coaching and developing students at the college or high school level and will have the ability to communicate in effective and life-giving ways.
He or she will be adept at cultivating relationships of high trust with students so that in coaching settings, constructive feedback can be given in a way that produces true development.
The ideal candidate will have a collaborative mindset while also being able to work independently.
This position will be an active contributor to the Calling and Career team while helping to cultivate a strong office culture oriented towards service and hospitality.
Professionalism as displayed in timeliness, strong organizational skills and sound prioritization will be necessary.
A successful candidate will display strong interpersonal skills and an ability to move easily with diverse constituents.
As always, the candidate should demonstrate a willingness to be kind even when it is inconvenient.
1-3 years of industry related experience, prior experience working with college students preferred.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Calling/Career coaching and assessment, life design, hiring processes, graduate school preparation, employer relations, event planning, and classroom facilitation.
An eligible candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical Christian church.
An eligible candidate must understand and support the College’s “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree preferred: Higher Education, Student Affairs, MBA, Counseling or Equivalent.
Other degree programs will be considered when combined with relevant experience.
Preference will be given to the candidate who supports and has an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith.

Responsibilities

Proactively create and develop positive relationships with students and alumni individually and collectively to help them understand the larger story of their life and how it informs their callings and vocational path.
As students progress in their understanding of themselves, coach them in how to put that understanding to use in pursuit of career-related experiences such as job-shadowing, internships, and eventually professional jobs and opportunities.
Help students determine and articulate their personal values, priorities, and life goals so that they can make informed and strategic decisions regarding career path and life choices.
Develop digital and print resources related to calling and career for students and alumni.
Assist Assistant Dean in planning and execution of annual events such as career fairs, sophomore retreat, summer fellows’ program, the senior launch event as well as other campus events.
Lead workshops for small groups of students developing them in key areas of calling and career.
Actively participate in consortium job fairs such as: WestPACS, Bridges and Pathways and the Accounting and Finance Consortium
Utilize appropriate technology and online information resources in working with students.
Assist with employer recruitment on campus as needed.
In effort to serve students more holistically, maintain accurate and up to date records of student meetings through the Handshake platform.
Help administer and collect data for annual First Destination Survey.
Respond to emails and communication in a timely and professional manner.
Actively promote the values, professional standards, and commitments of the Student Development department.
Prioritize and regularly attend and contribute to Student Development via meetings, programs, committees, events, etc.
Invest in the Student Development team through cross-office collaboration, communication, and service.
All other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean.
