Calibration Technician II is a mid-level role responsible for performing calibration work independently in a laboratory or at customer locations, with little to no supervision. Technicians at this level typically calibrate higher-level equipment across at least four disciplines and have expert knowledge in one discipline, such as Electrical, Dimensional, or Pressure. Skills and proficiency are assessed using Transcat’s technician skills progression matrix. The role includes coordinating daily workloads, conducting independent research when needed, selecting measurement techniques, maintaining calibration standards, and understanding and applying measurement uncertainty. The technician works with laboratory support staff and interprets laboratories’ scopes of accreditation. Travel may be required for up to 50% of the work schedule. The position also focuses on developing production and calibration skills, team leadership, and the ability to train and advise lower-level technicians. The technician is expected to develop toward the Tech III level, which requires competency in at least six disciplines and expertise in two, and to strive for ASQ/CCT or CMT certification. Work is performed in laboratory and customer-site environments and may involve electrical, mechanical, and other workplace hazards.
