About The Position

The Cal Crew Leader will be responsible for managing a crew of up to 8 participants, including handling personnel issues, scheduling, and all data requirements including time sheets. A Cal Crew Leader will be the primary drivers for the crew van and maintain daily contact with the Program Manager. You will support the Five Keys mission by creating a learning and work environment of mutual respect and fairness, while encouraging creative and critical thinking through an equity lens. In addition, you will contribute to our appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.

Requirements

  • Must be insured and have a clean driving record and be accepted under Five Keys company policy.
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work with team members and deliver clear instructions.
  • Demonstrate good written and oral communication skills.
  • Relate well with co-workers, staff, the community and partners in a courteous, professional manner at all times.
  • Be responsible for the care and maintenance of program equipment and resources.
  • Perform other program related tasks and duties as needed or requested.

  • Possess a valid California driver's license with a good driving record.

  • Must wear provided PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) and adhere to all safety guidelines and requirements, when needed.
  • Frequent and prolonged standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Frequent talking and hearing conversations.
  • Occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to follow oral directions in emergency situations.
  • Travel to multiple sites required.
  • Must be able to carry landscaping tools and equipment (at least 20lbs).
  • Must be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions (hot, cold, light rain).
  • Must be able to bend/stoop continuously.
  • Must be able to stand on hillsides and slopes while using landscaping tools/equipment.
  • Must be willing and able to travel throughout the area to community sites.
  • Possess a valid California driver's license.
  • Provide proof of current auto insurance.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience is not required for this position, but a strong candidate will have experience working outdoors in one or more of the following areas: Landscaping, brush clearance, grounds maintenance, and environmental cleanup efforts.
  • Some personal safety risk working in underserved communities.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a crew of up to 8 participants.
  • Handle personnel issues.
  • Manage scheduling for the crew.
  • Complete all data requirements, including time sheets.
  • Be the primary driver for the crew van.
  • Maintain daily contact with the Program Manager.
  • Create a learning and work environment of mutual respect and fairness.
  • Encourage creative and critical thinking through an equity lens.
  • Contribute to the appreciation of diversity and foster a climate of multicultural understanding.
  • Drive a passenger van and tow a 10-foot equipment trailer.
  • Provide daily pre-job technical and safety instructions and information specific to work locations.
  • Schedule crews to fulfill tasks by contractors.
  • Be available by cell phone during normal work hours for technical instructions and emergencies.
  • Conduct quarterly safety meetings and provide written documentation.
  • Conduct and document crew tailgate safety briefings per contract requirements, including hazards specific to work locations and any applicable seasonal safety hazards.
  • Ensure crews utilize equipment properly and safely.
  • Manage the inventory contents of the work van and supplies for the crew each day.
  • Manage daily time for crew employees, including tracking work hours and lunch relief.
  • Provide coaching and appropriate discipline as it adheres to Five Keys policy and procedures.
  • Ensure all crew members report to work dressed appropriately to protect themselves from exposure to usual and/or predictable physical and environmental conditions found in the workplace.
  • Ensure at ALL times Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn while working.
  • Ensure proper hydration and breaks throughout the day as required.
  • Maintain the security of the van daily and ensure it returns to the designated parking lot.
  • Provide progress of assigned work as required, including photographs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
