About The Position

Performs daily production, serving, and cleaning duties for the school lunch program. Meets and greets students and assists them with making healthy menu selections. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or appropriate equivalent is preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in the field of food service is preferred.
  • Possession of a valid class C Maryland driver's license or an equivalent preferred.
  • Knowledge of school system's safety, procedural, and policy guidelines, and applicable safety regulations.
  • Ability to understand and speak English.
  • Ability to maintain good relationships with teachers, students, and other employees.
  • Good human relations and communications skills.
  • Frequent lifting and carrying including objects up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to bend and kneel on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand for three hours or more consecutively.
  • Ability to withstand extreme temperatures of hot and cold.
  • Annual completion of continuing education/training in accordance with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Professional Standards for School Nutrition Employees.
  • Completed application on file for employment with Baltimore County Public Schools (BCPS).
  • Professional references must be submitted.
  • Account for all periods of employment and unemployment.
  • Must attach unofficial transcript(s) or license(s) if applying for a teacher position or position requiring Licensure/Certification.
  • Fingerprinted and have a criminal background investigation completed.
  • Provide proper identification and documentation of eligibility for employment in the US.
  • Provide a copy of DD214 if military experience.
  • Official transcripts will be required upon hire.
  • Undergo a physical examination and/or drug testing (for some positions).
  • Attend a Benefits and Retirement Orientation meeting.
  • Additional job verification will be required for salary credit.

Responsibilities

  • Performs food service production and operational tasks as assigned by the school's site manager.
  • Assists in the preparation of foods using standardized recipes and menus, and portion controls in accordance with work production standards.
  • Sets up food on serving lines and/or steam tables and serves meals or meal components.
  • Conducts the cashiering function in accordance with established financial and accountability procedures.
  • Cleans and sanitizes all equipment and work areas including the kitchen floors, walk-in refrigerators, and storage areas. Follows established Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) procedures and food safety standards.
  • Assists with maintaining production records, HACCP logs, and satellite control sheets.
  • Properly stores food and supplies.
  • Transports food from the base complex to the receiving school, if required.
  • Reports to any site in the complex as assigned.
