About The Position

This position is responsible for providing prompt, courteous service to the student body and staff, ensuring the availability of healthy, nutritious meals. The role involves working in various areas of the cafeteria on a rotating schedule, including the salad station, slicing/storeroom, sandwich room, cash register, and dishroom. The worker will also be responsible for cleaning duties, following sanitation and hygiene practices, and assisting with general kitchen tasks. Specific duties vary depending on the assigned area, such as operating the cash register, managing inventory, preparing food items, slicing meats, running the dishwasher, and overseeing student workers.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate preferred.
  • Dependability: punctuality, reliability, steady high-quality performance, and meeting deadlines.
  • Prior experience in food service is preferred.
  • Proven ability to work well in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Fluency in English sufficient to allow the applicant to read, write, speak, and understand oral and written instructions, recipes, and other communications essential for the safe and effective performance of the position.
  • Able to work well with others and possess a strong degree of adaptability.
  • Ability to stand up to six (6) hours each workday.
  • Ability to lift and/or carry 25-30 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Frequent requirement to walk/move, stand, stoop, squat, or bend during the workday.
  • Manual dexterity and visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodations, to operate kitchen equipment and cash registers and use kitchen tools, including knives.

Responsibilities

  • Work in various cafeteria areas on a rotating schedule: Sink & Serve, Salad Station, Slicing-Storeroom, Sandwich Room, Cash Register, Rounds Person, Cleaning Duties.
  • Follow sanitation and hygiene practices.
  • Operate the cash register, recognize reimbursable meals, record transactions, and handle cash.
  • Stock and record items for daily sales, maintain inventory, and perform cashier duties in the ice cream room.
  • Ascertain and order needs for menu production, prepare daily selections, and maintain production records in the sandwich room.
  • Slice cold cuts and other items, maintain order in the back storeroom, and manage stock rotation and sanitation for slicing duties.
  • Clean laundry and towels as needed.
  • Assist in the dish room, run the dishwasher, check and record water temperatures, clean the machine daily, and descale weekly.
  • Prepare snack sheets, collect money, file orders, and distribute them during 'Snack Break'.
  • Oversee student workers and order products needed for daily usage.
  • Assist in food preparations as needed.
  • Fill in at any workstation when needed.
  • Help in any clean-up where needed, keeping the work area sanitized and safe.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
