About The Position

Needham Public Schools is seeking an energetic, skilled, and warm Cafeteria Worker to join the team at Newman Elementary School for the 26-27 school year. This role is crucial in supporting the district's goals of enhancing student success and fostering an inclusive, dynamic, and multicultural community. The cafeteria worker will be responsible for all aspects of meal production, serving, and clean-up within the school kitchen and cafeteria, as directed by the Cafeteria Manager. Permanent cafeteria workers will also operate the computerized point-of-sale cash register.

Requirements

  • Ability to use commercial kitchen equipment to prepare and serve food in large quantities.
  • Ability to clean kitchen equipment, serving areas, handwash pots and pans, and perform other cleaning and sanitizing duties.
  • Ability to read basic English in order to follow directions and written instructions.
  • Ability to perform all duties while following National Restaurant Association standards for sanitation and safety.
  • Ability to perform simple math functions and operate a computerized cash register and make accurate change.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Ability to walk and stand for the duration of the work shift.
  • Ability to work safely and accurately under a deadline.
  • Ability to learn and follow food safety procedures (annual ServSafe training is provided and is required to pass certification exam following training).
  • Ability to follow directions and work independently.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with co-workers and contribute to a positive working environment.
  • Ability to safely tolerate exposure to heat, humidity, steam, cooking odors, refrigerator and freezer temperatures, and cleaning solutions.
  • Ability to work in a clean and sanitary manner.
  • Ability to have fun and display a positive attitude at work.
