About The Position

This is a part-time, temporary position responsible for monitoring student behavior during meal service. The role also involves assisting with cafeteria cleanliness, including recycling and managing the flow of meal services during breakfast and lunch. Work is performed under the general supervision of the principal, with consultation from the School Nutrition Senior Director and Manager.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma.
  • One year of customer service experience.
  • Some experience in food service or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • A current Food Handler’s Card by the Norfolk Health Department.

Responsibilities

  • Monitoring student behavior during meal service.
  • Assisting with the cleanliness of the cafeteria, including recycling.
  • Assisting with the flow of meal services during breakfast and lunch.
  • Managing students during meal service.
  • Communicating with students and school staff in a positive and professional manner.
  • Circulating throughout the cafeteria or in areas where meals are served and/or eaten, assisting students as needed.
  • Sanitizing tables before lunch, cleaning up spills on tables when necessary during lunch, and notifying the custodian for floor spills.
  • Setting up items needed to start meal service.
  • Dismissing classes in an orderly manner at the scheduled time.
  • Encouraging good table manners.
  • Participating in training sessions, meetings, and scheduled cleaning days as requested.
