About The Position

The position of Cafeteria Manager is established to provide support for food service activities at an assigned location. Key responsibilities include organizing food preparation, overseeing and assisting cafeteria workers, ensuring food quality and availability, preparing reports and deposits, and adhering to health regulations. This role reports to the Coordinator of Student Services.

Requirements

  • Position related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Safe Serve Certificate
  • Level 1 SNA Certification
  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance
  • Ability to perform any physical duties associated with this position (e.g., lifting up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, sitting for long periods of time, walking, seeing, standing for extended periods of time, etc.).
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures, quantify food preparation and handling, and sanitation practices.
  • Skills in adhering to safety practices; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; operating standard office equipment and equipment found in a commercial kitchen; and using pertinent software applications.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment.
  • Ability to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of standardized methods.
  • Ability to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment.
  • Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse groups, set priorities, work as part of a team, work with interruptions, and work with detailed information/data.

Responsibilities

  • Estimates food preparation amounts and adjusts recipes to meet projected meal requirements and minimize waste.
  • Evaluates prepared food for flavor, appearance, and temperature to ensure it meets dietary guidelines and student/staff acceptance.
  • Implements menu plans to meet students' mandated daily nutritional requirements.
  • Inspects food and supply deliveries to verify quantity, quality, and specifications, and to ensure compliance with health requirements.
  • Inventories food, condiments, supplies, and equipment at specified intervals to ensure availability for menu requirements.
  • Maintains equipment, storage, food preparation, and serving areas in a sanitary condition according to health standards.
  • Manages assigned site operations, including supervising personnel, creating menus, monitoring meal accounts and expenditures, evaluating new products/menus, and overseeing cleaning procedures.
  • Monitors food service operations, including kitchen equipment, trays, utensils, and staff assignments, to ensure a safe, clean, and sanitary working environment.
  • Orders food, equipment, and supplies to maintain adequate inventory within nutritional and budget guidelines.
  • Orients new employees to work center and school site processes, providing training and information.
  • Oversees the preparation, cooking, serving, and transportation of food and beverage items to meet meal quantities, nutritional and health standards, and presentation requirements.
  • Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, and workshops.
  • Performs functions of other nutritional services positions as needed to ensure adequate staff coverage.
  • Prepares documentation such as meal program records, reconciliation reports, cash summaries, and time sheets.
  • Processes receipts to complete and document transactions and prepare bank deposits.
  • Reconciles transactions, including meal counts and monies collected, to maintain account balances and makes daily bank deposits.
  • Responds to inquiries from students, staff, and the public regarding food items and food service policies.
  • Schedules work hours and assignments for cafeteria employees to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Serves food items to meet mandated nutritional requirements and requests.
  • Stocks food, condiments, and supplies to maintain adequate quantities and security.
  • Supervises food service workers and other personnel, including orientation, training, and evaluation.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
