About The Position

Dauphin County Technical School is seeking a dedicated and skilled Assistant Cook to support the daily operation of our school cafeteria and ensure students receive nutritious, high‑quality meals. We are looking for someone who is dependable, organized, and committed to maintaining a safe and sanitary kitchen environment. This is a hands‑on role involving food production, meal service, inventory management, and contributing to smooth daily cafeteria operations, helping out wherever needed. We’re looking for someone who takes pride in providing students with safe, healthy meals and helping keep our kitchen running efficiently.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations
  • Established record of accuracy and accountability
  • Positive and professional attitude with students, staff, and coworkers
  • Ability to take direction and accept constructive feedback
  • ServSafe certification required within 90 days of hire
  • Meet minimum health requirements including a physical exam and TB test
  • Ability to work scheduled hours required for the position of Assistant Cook
  • Able to read and understand English
  • Neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance

Responsibilities

  • Assist with food preparation and food service for breakfast and lunch
  • Maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe kitchen environment
  • Follow all food handling and sanitation procedures in accordance with HACCP guidelines
  • Check food quality and follow standard recipes, portion sizes, and production records
  • Maintain daily production sheets including menus, temperature logs, and HACCP documentation
  • Assist with receiving, storing, and organizing food and supply deliveries
  • Support the dish room, laundry, serving area setup, and general kitchen cleaning
  • Assist with operation of the POS system when needed
  • Properly store leftover food items following HACCP procedures
  • Monitor inventory levels and assist with weekly ordering
  • Set up and restock serving lines
  • Attend required staff meetings and professional development
  • Perform all other duties as assigned by the Cafeteria Director
