About The Position

The Cafeteria Aide at Stony Brook University Hospital is an ancillary employee who performs various retail services, including accurate preparation, serving, and storage of food, general sanitation, cleaning, and use of kitchen equipment, servicing customers, and focusing on customer service.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in retail or food service
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English, follow written and verbal instructions, and complete simple computational skills
  • Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position
  • Ability to meet acceptable background check standards
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as appropriate.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and clean equipment per departmental procedures.
  • Safely transport garbage and recyclable material to assigned areas.
  • Accurately portion and serve food, quickly and accurately, with minimum waste, per departmental procedures.
  • Safely transport food carts and equipment throughout the hospital as required.
  • Accurately inventory and maintain necessary supplies to ensure the efficiency of retail operation
  • Date, label, and rotate stock following procedural priorities
  • Complete food temperature control logs as per established protocol.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of infection control.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sanitation, including but not limited to food safety and personal hygiene.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of federal, state, local, and department and follow directions recommended by manufacturers and per MSDS sheets.
  • Utilize equipment to perform job functions as per departmental safety procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
  • Follow the Association and departmental safety policies and procedures, including occurrence reporting.
  • Wear name tag identification and be aware of the role in minimizing security incidents.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the role of hazardous materials and waste in the hazardous materials and waste program.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the role of the Emergency Preparedness Program.
  • Participate in disaster drills, as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of role in the Life Safety Program and participate in fire drills as appropriate.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the department's response to utility failures.
  • Follow Association and departmental Infection Control policies and procedures.
  • In cooperation with the Supervisor and Executive Director, a professional development plan will be jointly developed and pursued to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and address changes and ASA priorities.
  • Collaborate in activities that support the Auxiliary Services Association and perform other duties as assigned.
  • Support the Association in maintaining a safe working environment.
  • Be familiar with and strive to follow applicable federal, state, or local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement, and standards.
  • Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
  • Appreciate and embrace diversity in all interactions with clientele, staff, volunteers, and the public.
  • Assist the Auxiliary Services Association in reaching out to diverse audiences.
  • Aware of and adheres to established Auxiliary Services Association and Stony Brook University policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the organization's overall success by performing all assigned duties professionally, timely, and accurately.
