About The Position

Join our friendly and fun team as a Cashier at LaSalle Market & Deli! As the first point of contact for our customers, you'll help make every experience sweet, smooth, and memorable. This role involves greeting customers, answering questions about products and the deli menu, suggesting add-ons or promotions, operating a cash register or POS system, handling payments, issuing receipts, counting change, balancing the drawer, sanitizing the register area, restocking supplies, maintaining an orderly checkout station, notifying supervisors of low-stock items, scanning items, assisting with basic stock checks, helping coworkers during busy shifts, and relaying customer feedback or unusual transactions to the shift lead or manager. A typical day involves clocking in, setting up the register, cleaning and stocking the station, welcoming customers, accurately scanning and processing payments, assisting the deli team, monitoring product availability, handling busy periods, supporting coworkers, cleaning the station, counting the drawer, reporting totals, and sharing updates.

Requirements

  • Must obtain ServSafe Certification within 30 days of hire (Employer sponsored)
  • Minimum of 6 months of hands-on experience working in retail customer service as a Cashier, Sales Associate, or similar role.
  • Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems.
  • Basic math skills for handling cash and making change.
  • Ability to stay alert for pricing errors, counterfeit money, or suspicious behavior.
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with customers.
  • Clear verbal communication and active listening.
  • Ability to remain calm and courteous during busy or challenging situations.

Responsibilities

  • Greet customers with a warm and professional attitude.
  • Answer questions about products, pricing, and deli menu items.
  • Suggest add-ons or promotions to enhance the customer experience.
  • Operate a cash register or POS system.
  • Accurately handle cash, credit, debit, and mobile payments.
  • Issue receipts, count change, and balance the drawer.
  • Sanitize the register area, counter surfaces, and payment devices.
  • Restock bags, receipt paper, and other front-end supplies.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly checkout station.
  • Notify supervisors of low-stock items or out-of-stock concerns.
  • Scan items and assist with basic stock checks as needed.
  • Assist coworkers during busy shifts by bagging items or managing line flow.
  • Relay customer feedback or unusual transactions to the shift lead or manager.
