About The Position

Savannah Technical College seeks a part-time Professional Laboratory Assistant. This individual is responsible for assisting with daily café operations, including opening and closing procedures. They will provide outstanding customer service to students, faculty, staff, and community guests. The role involves preparing and serving coffee, espresso beverages, specialty drinks, and light café menu items. Additionally, the assistant will receive and display baked goods and pastries produced by Baking and Pastry students, maintain attractive product displays, and ensure proper food presentation. The position requires operating the point-of-sale (POS) system, accurately processing transactions, and maintaining cleanliness and organization of the café, dining area, and service stations. Monitoring inventory levels, assisting with stocking supplies, and following all food safety, sanitation, and health department regulations are key duties. The role also supports faculty by helping create an efficient learning environment during laboratory production and service, assists with catering events, campus functions, and special culinary showcases as needed, and models professionalism and excellent hospitality practices for students.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be ServSafe Manager certified
  • Must have 2 years of verifiable entry level experience within the hospitality field
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and stand for extended periods.
  • High school degree or equivalent and Two (2) years of work related experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a café, bakery, coffee shop, or restaurant.
  • Retail experience or like sales experience, to include customer service, POS experience, and general selling activities
  • Experience operating a POS system.
  • Knowledge of coffee preparation and basic barista skills.
  • Familiarity with food safety and sanitation practices.
  • Experience working in an educational or training environment.
