CAD Drafter
About The Position
VARITE is seeking a qualified CAD Drafter for a client in Hauppauge, NY. The client is a global leader in smart building technologies, energy solutions, and industrial automation, focusing on optimizing energy efficiency, sustainability, and performance. VARITE, established in 2000, is an award-winning minority business enterprise providing global consulting & staffing services to Fortune 1000 companies and government agencies. This is a 6-month onsite role in Hauppauge, NY, with a pay rate of $25.00 - $28.00/hr on W2. Candidates must be local to Hauppauge, NY, or able to commute reliably, as office collaboration is expected. The ideal candidate will have a serious interest in the life safety and fire protection industry, be self-driven, reliable, motivated to learn, and comfortable working under supervision. The role is focused on developing a career within a structured engineering and design environment, not just filling a short-term CAD position.
Requirements
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2014 or newer
- Strong skills with Windows-based software and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Experience in the construction industry, preferably: Electrical construction, Mechanical construction, Low-voltage systems installation
- Professional industry experience preferred over purely academic or club-based drafting experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
Nice To Haves
- Candidates with experience supporting: Fire alarm systems, Security systems, Access control systems, Low-voltage specialty systems
- Construction drawing preparation and revisions
Responsibilities
- Create and revise construction drawings under supervision
- Produce: Floor plan layouts, Riser diagrams, Electrical interconnection drawings, Installation termination drawings
- Prepare submittal documentation, including: Product data sheets, Battery calculations
- Maintain project drawing files and records
- Track and update as-built drawings
- Support design team members with assigned projects
