About The Position

Leidos is seeking a CAD Drafter Intern for their Walled Lake, MI office. The intern will work as a member of a dynamic team within the Industrial Transformation division, an established group of Controls Engineers creating building automation solutions for industrial clients across North America. The CAD Drafter intern will work under the mentorship of a seasoned CAD Drafter in a fast-paced environment to perform various drafting and detailing functions using AutoCAD software. This role offers the opportunity to develop skills in electrical control system drafting and work with increasing independence, with the flexibility to work around school schedules. The individual will collaborate closely with design engineers and designers to complete drafting and detailing tasks with a high level of quality, efficiency, and productivity for automation projects.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing a drafting or engineering technology degree with at least 1 year of relevant drafting and detailing class experience with AutoCAD.
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems or schematics.
  • Knowledge of drafting principles, techniques and procedures.
  • Ability to create and/or modify drawings from engineer-provided markups with a high level of attention to details.
  • Proficiency with Windows operating system environments.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
  • Experience with file sharing, document management and collaboration tools such as ProjectWise, FTP, SharePoint, etc.
  • Strong professional verbal and written communication skills within a team environment.
  • Highly organized and efficient.
  • Ability to understand and implement a wide range of client CAD standards.
  • Ability to perform tasks in a fast-paced engineering/production environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical drafting and detailing class experience with AutoCAD.
  • Currently enrolled in an Associate-level drafting program.

Responsibilities

  • Perform drafting and detailing functions using AutoCAD software for various industrial clients.
  • Work under the mentorship of a seasoned CAD Drafter.
  • Develop skills in electrical control system drafting.
  • Work with increased independence.
  • Collaborate closely with multiple design engineers and designers to complete Drafting and Detailing tasks.
  • Complete Industrial Control Panel drawings including Electrical Ladder Diagrams, Schematics, SCADA and Communication drawings, Control Panel Front and Internal Views and Layouts, Wiring Diagrams, Interconnection Drawings, and other miscellaneous drawings as required by project scope.
