The CAD Designer performs para-professional office and engineering tasks in support of various technical projects. Responsibilities may include drafting, project design, calculations, layout creation, quality control, and utilization of Computer-Aided Design (CAD) tools. Work assignments vary by experience level and may involve collaboration with engineering and project management staff.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Three (3) years of para-professional experience in drafting, design, or engineering support.
  • Experience with SolidWorks CAD software required.
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, terminology, and drafting practices.
  • Knowledge of CAD systems and techniques.
  • Knowledge of technical report writing and data analysis.
  • Knowledge of office software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Knowledge of time management, file organization, and documentation standards.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to analyze data, make calculations, and solve design-related issues.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize digital and physical files per company procedures.
  • Ability to operate CAD software (SolidWorks) and standard office applications.
  • Ability to use measurement tools (e.g., tape measure, calipers) with accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate degree (minimum 60 semester units) in Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical field preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience may be waived with an accredited associate's degree.

Responsibilities

  • Create, revise, and maintain detailed component and assembly drawings.
  • Support engineering teams in basic design tasks and calculations.
  • Draft instruction documents and assembly procedures and gather sample materials.
  • Conduct quality control checks and ensure compliance with design standards.
  • Interpret customer specifications and develop appropriate design responses.
  • Collaborate with engineering and project stakeholders to coordinate design requirements.
  • Prepare construction and zoning documentation for review and proposal development.
  • Perform analysis of mechanical components for stress and functionality.
  • Prepare "as-built" drawings and update layouts based on project needs.
  • Create spreadsheets, maintain databases, and generate basic reports.
  • Provide training on design applications under supervision.
  • Deliver technical presentations and assist in responding to plan check requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Adhere to established procedures, company policies, and project guidelines.
  • Report to work on time and maintain regular attendance (Monday-Friday).
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
