About The Position

As a member of this team, the Controls Designer will lead and execute the design of protection and control aspects of Flexible AC (Alternating Current) Transmission System (FACTS) projects. In this role, the candidate will be responsible for the design documentation of the protection and control aspects of fixed series capacitors (FSC), static VAR compensation (SVC), and synchronous condenser (Client) solutions within the Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS) portfolio.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field from an accredited university or college with 2+ years of experience; or an Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of experience in controls design.
• AutoCAD 2D Design.
• AutoCAD Electrical.
• Bill of Materials (BOM).

Nice To Haves

• Electrical and Controls drawing experience.
• Proficiency in standard drafting practices.
• Knowledge of and experience using IEEE, IEC, ANSI, NEC, AUS, CSA, and NESC standards and codes, with the ability to design packages when no clear specification is provided.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Demonstrated creativity and ability to be accountable for team results to deliver a high-quality product on time and under budget.

Responsibilities

• Design custom protection and control solutions, including physical layouts, schematics, logic diagrams, wiring/interconnection, grounding, cable schedules, and other required custom control hardware for custom FACTS solutions for orders and proposals.
• Develop Bills of Material for all designs, ensuring consistency and quality throughout all design documentation.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of standard control documentation for FACTS equipment including protection and control systems.
• Coordinate with offshore design resources and project team members on technical matters to meet project specifications, cost control, and schedule objectives.
• Interface with internal and external team members such as principal engineers, control engineers, civil engineers, electrical designers, project managers, engineering leaders, and support organizations.
• Facilitate the development and execution of cost reduction programs that vary in scope and may include low-cost vendor selection, design improvements, process improvements, automation, and new product introduction.
• Utilize personal computer skills, including proficiency with Excel, Word, AutoCAD Electrical, and MicroStation.
• Support project quality procedures and initiatives including aspects of ISO9001.
