About The Position

The CAD Designer / Technician works in a mid-level design and drafting capacity under general supervision. The role uses intermediate knowledge of standards and document-control processes and procedures to create and modify project deliverables. The designer may begin providing technical guidance to other designers and drafters. The position supports energy generation and distribution projects at Commonwealth, with a focus on quality, accurate design work, and collaboration with internal teams.

Requirements

• At least 2 years of direct experience in professional drafting services.
• Proficiency using CAD software, such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or Revit, to create, develop, and modify technical drawings and models from initial design inputs.

Nice To Haves

• Professional drafting experience in the electric utility industry is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Continuously study company standards, project systems, and document-control policies.
• Use the company Quality Program to ensure work is accurate and follows applicable requirements.
• Design and create project deliverables, such as drawings, models, or plans, based on instructions and design inputs.
• Perform dimensional checks to verify design accuracy and, where applicable, estimate project material quantities.
• Coordinate tasks among teams working on the same project.
• Identify ways to improve design methods, guides, and standards.
• Focus primarily on internal team members’ needs while learning how external clients operate.
• May provide technical guidance to other designers and drafters.
