About The Position

The CAD Designer II position is responsible for developing concepts and designing layouts and product definitions of complex mechanical or electrical equipment, parts, and assemblies to create product definitions while using Computer Aided Design (CAD) and/or Computer Aided Engineering (CAE) tools. The Kansas City National Security Campus (KCNSC), managed and operated by Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technologies, is a premier advanced manufacturing facility that supports the safety, security, reliability and effectiveness of our nation's nuclear deterrent. Requirements

  • High school diploma
  • 2 or more years of experience in design drafting or equivalent experience using CAD computer system
  • Ability to travel up to 5% of the time
  • United States Citizenship
  • Ability to work on-site as directed by management and as determined by the needs of the business
  • Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of this job
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) security clearance (some positions require additional DOE designations)

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors of Science Technology degree in appropriate field or equivalent training and experience.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of computer-aided design tools normally acquired through technical training.
  • Ability to work without supervision and provide technical and project guidance, leadership, consultative services, and innovative solutions.
  • Ability to perform component research and recommend design alternatives and to independently accomplish tasks that may be sequenced with the work of others.

Responsibilities

  • Works on a variety of projects and tasks that vary within their discipline, following defined procedures and practices.
  • Determines equipment requirements, sets up equipment, performs tests/experiments, prepares, and analyzes results, and/or provides design-drafting services.
  • Uses CAD models to calculate dimensions and tolerances to assure function, fit, and manufacturability of components and assemblies, and performs component research to recommend design alternatives, and contributes to technical designs and documentation.
  • May assemble prototype equipment/designs with limited documentation.
  • Consults with engineering, inspection, and manufacturing personnel to verify reliability of design.
  • Monitors workload and provides training and guidance to lower classification.
  • May check the work of lower classifications to ensure accuracy of dimensions, tolerances, and other design/modeling information.
  • Ensures quality of task completion to positively impact team dynamics, project outcomes, and customer satisfaction.
