About The Position

The CAD Designer I is a vital member of the team, working closely with the Fire Alarm department, Kitchen Suppression, Sales, Senior Designers, and Executives. We are seeking a candidate with 1-3 years of recent CAD design experience, ideally in the Fire & Life Safety Industry. NICET certification in Fire Alarm Systems is preferred. This role is located at our Elgin, IL office.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of experience in CAD Engineering, preferably in the Fire Protection/Fire & Life Safety field.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test, background check, and reference check.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Navis Simulate and/or BIM coordination is a plus.
  • NICET Certification I or II in Fire Alarm Systems preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review construction contract documents and coordinate with general contractors/owners to gather essential information for designing fire alarm systems.
  • Design layouts for fire alarm systems across various structures.
  • Conduct field surveys to identify code issues and develop solutions.
  • Attend coordination and job progress meetings.
  • Create fabrication and stock listings for system components and manage material purchases throughout the project.
  • Complete material equipment submittals.
  • Ensure smooth handoff of job information between FVFS departments.
  • Submit documentation to authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs), owners, architects, engineers, and insurance companies.
  • Manage close-out procedures and O&M manuals as necessary.
  • Identify project scope changes impacting cost, schedule, and labor; create and submit change orders promptly.
  • Foster positive relationships with customers to ensure their expectations are met.
  • Monitor project progress and financial metrics, ensuring compliance with schedules and budgets.
  • Maintain ongoing communication and collaboration with Fox Valley Fire and Safety staff.
  • Demonstrate attention to detail with a focus on accuracy and quality.
  • Read and interpret construction blueprints effectively.
  • Stay self-motivated and prioritize tasks to balance multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Adhere to safety rules and demonstrate good driving habits.
  • Follow company policies and procedures.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by the supervisor.
