About The Position

BB&E is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented CAD/BIM Engineer to join our team, supporting facilities design and construction projects for NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic at Norfolk Naval Station, VA. This role involves providing independent, timely, and professional CAD/BIM management support and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other supported commands. The position requires overseeing CAD standards compliance, providing software training and support, and serving as the primary technical resource for AutoCAD and Revit platforms across NAVFAC Atlantic’s area of responsibility (AOR). The CAD/BIM Manager will participate in conferences with project stakeholders, collaborate with engineering and architectural disciplines, and maintain CAD standards and procedures in compliance with NAVFAC and U.S. National CAD Standard guidelines. Responsibilities also include supporting the design of in-house projects and RFPs, reviewing consultant-prepared designs, developing and providing CAD/BIM training, implementing NAVFAC sheet standards, and managing CAD administration processes for various project types. The role involves reviewing contractor submittals, conferring with contractors and designers to resolve issues, recommending corrective measures, and ensuring proper coordination and approval of changes. Expert-level knowledge of AutoCAD MEP, Revit, and Navisworks is essential for addressing complex design and construction techniques, CAD/BIM standards, file-translation methods, and platform requirements. Additionally, the position requires providing CAD and BIM software application support, organizing and supporting the use of CAD content and Revit applications, recommending future software versions, assisting with software inventory management and hardware/software installations, and supporting the collection and destruction of outdated project drawings. The CAD/BIM Manager will also interface with customers and other parties to provide consultation and gather information for project scoping, designs, failure analyses, and remedial measures.

Requirements

U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a NACI/CAC are required.
Advanced proficiency with AutoCAD MEP 2015/2016, Revit 2015, and Navisworks is required.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Highly motivated self-starter with the ability to independently manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

Nice To Haves

AutoCAD and/or Revit Certified Professional certification is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

Provide independent, timely, and professional CAD/BIM management support and consultation for the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of facilities for the Navy, Marine Corps, and other supported commands.
Oversee CAD standards compliance, provide software training and support, and serve as the primary technical resource for AutoCAD and Revit platforms across NAVFAC Atlantic’s area of responsibility (AOR).
Participate in conferences with project stakeholders and collaborate with engineering and architectural disciplines to ensure system coordination and integration with project requirements.
Maintain CAD standards and procedures in compliance with NAVFAC and U.S. National CAD Standard guidelines across NAVFAC Atlantic’s AOR.
Support the design of in-house projects and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) as a team member on complex projects.
Review designs, including specifications, drawings, and costs, and RFPs prepared by consultant Architect-Engineers (AEs).
Develop CAD/BIM training programs and provide training to users across NAVFAC Atlantic’s AOR.
Implement NAVFAC sheet standards, user support, and CAD administration processes for both design-bid-build (DBB) and design-build (DB) projects.
Review contractor submittals, including shop drawings, material samples, and other design-related items.
Confer with construction contractors and designers, when applicable, to resolve problems or latent conditions that may arise after construction begins.
Recommend appropriate corrective and preventive measures.
Ensure that changes to costs, quantities, scope, schedules, designs, or other contract terms and conditions are properly coordinated and approved, as appropriate.
Apply expert-level knowledge of AutoCAD MEP, Revit, and Navisworks to address complex design and construction techniques, CAD/BIM standards, file-translation methods, and platform requirements.
Provide CAD and BIM software application support throughout NAVFAC Atlantic’s AOR, including plotting, electronic file submissions, and CAD document archiving and retrieval for future projects.
Organize and support the use of CAD content and Revit applications and recommend future software versions and adoption logistics.
Assist CIBL with CAD software inventory management and CIO coordination for new hardware and software installations.
Support the collection and destruction of outdated project drawings in accordance with Navy guidelines and assist with enforcing NAVFAC CAD standards, guidelines, and policies.
Interface with customers and other interested parties to provide consultation and gather the information needed to complete project scoping, designs, failure analyses, and remedial measures.
